Why does half life 2 say my card is only Direct X8.1? I have geforce FX5900

My LG Studioworks 995E 19" CRT monitor makes high pitched noise occasionally:mad: The way i stop it is by turning the monitor off then on again:D Sometimes monitors squeak because of the refresh rate the monitor is set to:confused:

I chose half life 2 aswell. Mainly because unlike in doom, half life makes you use your brain!

The CPU isnt overclocked that much:D I dont like overclocking graphics cards so my fx5900 is standard:cool:

Yes i must admit that the enemys in doom do look very good.

When most people see a screenshot of doom 3 they arent impressed mainly because its allways too dark! When you show someone a picture of an "ultra- illuminated room" on half life 2 they are amazed because people like to see detail and pretty bright colours! Doom 3 may be more technical in...

I used fraps to record the average fps! That result was after playing the game for 15 mins. and heres what my system looks like

I hate doom 3 graphics! Its way too dark for my liking. Half life 2 is amazingly good!

the idle temp with 10% vcore increase was 51C My case temp was 46c:eek: ! i have a badly ventalated case:mad:

I purchased a second hand mobo and duron 1.3ghz for £2

Overclocked a bit more, 150fsb to 155fsb. It wouldnt boot into windows with the fsb set at 155mhz. So i had to increase the vcore by 10% and then it became stable but much hotter. so ive decided i will stick with my original overclock!

Im sure that the highest temps athlon xp's can go is 85-90C so my cpu is well within the limits. I will have a go at overclocking some more

Yea i agree with you! My cpu cooler is very good, but my case ventalation is crap. Im considering buying a new case.
