Not getting the speed I'm paying for

Your desktop has a wireless network adapter amd it's connecting to your modem wirelessly on the 4ghz band rather than using your wired connection. Turn off your wireless network and force the wired connection. That's my guess at least.

    Ryzen2 3000 Series Specs Revealed

I on the other hand am so freaking excited to finally upgrade. I came to this site back in 2011-2012 and asked for advice to build a gaming rig. I'm still using the i5 2500k that is sorely needing an upgrade and it's going to be ryzen 3000 for sure.

    CPU/motherboard Recomendations

My reasoning is that this computer will just be mainly for browsing, so having an $80 SSD will improve operating system functionality much more than sinking the extra 80 bucks into the CPU mobo. I just recently put an SSD in my gaming machine and it's a world of difference the speed of the...

    CPU/motherboard Recomendations

I'm looking at an Intel G3258. At $90 CAD, it's on the high side of my budget. But is this the best CPU I can get for this money? If I do end up doing any gaming, it'll be gaming I can do with the wife and kids. I've got a decent gaming PC which I use for myself with an aging Radeon 7990 in it.

    CPU/motherboard Recomendations

Hey guys Was hoping I could get a little advice on a budget CPU/Motherboard combo for an HTPC type of computer. I currently have Mid tower case Radeon 6870 GPU HDD PSU 650 watt I need some advice on which CPU to put in here. This computer probably won't be doing any gaming. Mostly just...

Unsure if I can fit new graphics card? Novice

I'd definitely wait for the gtx 1080. Everything else looks okay. The new video card will be easy to install however as a novice I wouldn't recommend changing your power supply. Unless you've done it before or built a computer from scratch or want to learn how to

    Can my PSU handle Tri-fire?

Thanks for the quick replies. Will just have to game at 1080p or turn down the settings on some games, neither of which I enjoy. Until I'm ready to splurge on a new GPU maybe a year from now.

    Can my PSU handle Tri-fire?

Hey guys, I'm thinking about Tri-firing my Radeon 7990 with another 7970 but am not sure if my PSU would be up to the job. The 7990 was gifted to me 6 months ago and on new games (doom, far cry primal) I get reasonably good framerate but it dips down to 24 or so in certain areas when I'm...

7970 Will blow up my PC?

Another thing I forgot to mention is my existing corsair cx600 is 3 years old with pretty heavy use. Do they somehow degrade with usage?

7970 Will blow up my PC?

Well then... It's a done deal. I'm going to pick up the 7970 for 150. Again, just making sure... it doesn't matter if i have speakers hooked up to it, network card, multi monitors because it's definitley the best bang for my buck video card I can get right now... I'm a little weary in...

7970 Will blow up my PC?

Any other information required? I'll have it set up to 2 or 3 monitors at once. Not sure if that makes a difference. Is that 7970 for sure within safe limits with my above setup? The r9 290 is out of my budget in this case. I don't really want to spend more than $150 and there aren't any r9...

7970 Will blow up my PC?

Hey guys I want to upgrade the graphics card in my computer. I was thinking, instead of buying a new graphics card (budget about $150 CAD), that I would get a used card. With $150 CAD I can get a 750ti if it's new. However there's quite a bit of used 7970's in my area that are also about...

What does a budget build look like these days?

There's an issue here. The build you suggested is over budget because some of those parts are much more expensive up here in Canada. It would be cheaper for me to buy it from the US newegg and ship it to Canada probably and pay the exchange than just buy it from Canadian Newegg. How about...

What does a budget build look like these days?

You know. I really like this build however it looks like I severely underestimated these pieces would be up in Canada. Anyone know of any good sales or price drops in the next few months?

What does a budget build look like these days?

Thanks for the input guys. I still haven't done my own research on the subject of APU vs CPU +GPU. This is a built I'll probably do in September, so I have some time to think about it. The budget here is probably around $600-800. I'll need the optical drive. If I was going to go the...

What does a budget build look like these days?

Title says it all. I've done 2 builds with the help of this forum and the advice is usually pretty good.... save for a really bad case/motherboard combination on my first build. I'm in the market for a new computer. I'm thinking about maybe an HTPC because I want something kind of smaller...

    $900 gaming build

Just assembled this computer today. Forgot to take pics... Made a bad on the fly decision at the store. The 2100 mhz ram was just like $4 more and I ended up buying it without checking if it was compatible with the board I bought. Turns out the board only supports up to 1866 mhz ram, so I'll...

Can I use a windows 7 hard drive on a windows 8 machine

Okay so I just picked up all the parts for a new build I'm doing. I'm keeping my old HDD from my old computer which ran windows 7 64bit. The new computer will be a windows 8 machine, which I will install on my new SSD. My question is... Is there any problem with connecting my old HDD to this...

    $900 gaming build

I haven't don't an SSD build before, but from what I've read it's going to make the OS work a lot faster which will be a welcomed change I believe. Going to play around with the numbers later today and see how much everything works out to be. Might even make the purchase today, and assemble the...

    $900 gaming build

Is the suggested board not very good?? It will probably end up being a build with a 7870. The local store has better prices than I've been able to find online for the same GPU. Saphire 7870 GHZ edition should be able to handle most games on max graphics at 1080? The build is first and...
