    Silent

If you just want the green colour, and not the green LEDs, take a look at the Evercool Ever Green series fans. If green LEDs are important, the Antec Tricool green LED version or the Cooler Master TLF-S12-EG (can't find link) would be good.

    Server host

IIS stinks on ice really. For the best support and community, I'd suggest apache or lighty on debian. I'm running my server with apache on debian and I love it - apache is very well documented and everyone knows how to help. You'd be hard pressed getting support for IIS.

    Which Better Case?

Going solely by price, go with NZXT. Who knows though, Jpac might be a diamond in the rough. Never used them. Personally, my taste tends toward In-Win.

    New... small mod

What kind of fan is that? It looks like it rotates clockwise from the blade pitch. Most fans rotate anticlockwise.

    Rugged laptops

Take a look at Panasonic's Toughbook line, or the Itronix laptops (not sure if they're still around). I must disagree with windowsvista here; Sony doesn't produce any rugged laptops. NB: Rugged laptops are expensive as heck. But they are used by police, coast guard, and military :D

    Toshiba Satellite T1960CT: Worth resurrecting?

Megabytes, not gigabytes. My main system has more RAM than the lappy has hard drive space. The_Other_One: YGPM.

    Toshiba Satellite T1960CT: Worth resurrecting?

What's the specs on that 300MHz one, and would you sell it for $80? I have a 40GB laptop HDD laying around that I could put in it. (Which is way too big to put into a 486, do they even have LBA?!) Oh well, here comes parting out a probably working yet horribly obsolete lappy. [sob]

    Toshiba Satellite T1960CT: Worth resurrecting?

I just got this lappy from a friend for Christmas; her dad found it in an abandoned rental house. It's a 486DX2/50 with 4MB (I think; this sounds a little low) RAM and a 320MB hard disk (dead; neither my Windows nor Linux boxes could mount it). I was thinking to replace the power adapter (he...

    Dell Latitude C600 malaise

I'll get a new HDD, since the old one is now totally dead after a car trip. I'll keep it at win2k since it already has a product key. But I will install Avast, Spybot, Ad-aware, CCleaner, and ZoneAlarm.

    short on $$ PSU

It's always good to have a little extra power. But a cheap, good 400w is this: Hipro HP-E4009F5WR

    short on $$ PSU

Look at the Corsair VX450. Its MSRP is about $70 if I'm not mistaken. For a little less, check out In Win or Fortron units between 450 and 500 watts.

    Dell Latitude C600 malaise

Apologies for the format; it was originally posted to my blog. I have here before me a laptop manufactured in late 2001, a Dell Latitude C600. It belongs to my friend’s mom. The Latitude’s specifications are as follows: * 850MHz Intel Pentium III processor * 128MB RAM *...

    Am I dreaming?

Hmm, my local computer store still sells Dell P1110 21" CRTs from the same era for $100, and I've seen them for $120 at the monthly computer swap meet. It's a professional quality Trinitron monitor that I'm told sold for about $1000 new. Given that, is this more reasonable: Dell P1110 - $50...

    Am I dreaming?

I need to sell off all my old computer crap locally. Nothing here is for sale on CF, I'm just posting here to get a price check. Guaranteed working: $75 - Dell P1110 21" CRT (Nov01) $20 - Compaq 1024 14" CRT (Feb94) $40 - Blue aluminium Chieftec Dragon 601 w/window (Mar03) $15 - 250W...

    Replacing board in Gateway Essential

Hmm... I'd have to say I prefer PohTayToez' suggestion. Seems more power for the price. But I was thinking more along the lines of: Jetway Mini-ITX board w/Via C3 MiniBox case 512MB DDR Samsung 40GB 2.5" HDD This way, it's smaller. Even smaller than his current Flex-ATX system. So it...

    Replacing board in Gateway Essential

Can I build a good, maintenance-free SFF for $400 including XP? (I'm *not* giving him Vista - it sucks big time.)

Best, Cheapest, and Most Quiet Case Fans?

Noctua and Scythe fans are great decisions. They are favourites over at silentpcreview.

    Quieter Chipset Fan

If you're looking for a passive solution ( i certainly would, given I can't stand the noise signature of small fans) then I think the Zalman NB32 could fit with some possible modding to fit it under the video card. If not that, then a ThermalRight HR05SLI or a Jing Ting JTS0003

    Plastic between heatsync?

Hahahaaaaaaa... is that average Averatec QC? Thanks for tipping us off to that - I was maybe thinking of getting an Averatec lappy. Now I know what to check for.
