I ran the ADw cleaner, it seems to be gone (for now anyway). I noticed something new on my desktop that appeared from somewhere called 'cut the rope' I deleted that myself. Somebody else on here said AVG is malware in itself...should I not use it and stick with Avist & malwarebytes?

I too get the little purple box in the lower right corner on my Yahoo news page. Nothing comes up when you click it. I see others mention it on the internet...some say it's benign, some say it's malware...the verdict? I have malwarebytes, AVG, and periodically run the Microsoft Safety Scanner

hmmm...that's not a very comforting thought...I like to use Microsoft Safety Scanner also as they say it's revamped every 10(?) days to detect the latest malware. I never do open attachments in email...well, I guess nothing is 100%...hope my Dell will remain virus free thru the coming cold & flu...

If a virus gets into your computer where does it usually land--on the drive that holds your operating system? When I run a scan with AVG should it always be a whole computer scan? Or can I just select the main drive to scan if I suspect something? Could a potential virus creep around my computer...

actually I should have said I watch movies etc. only online via YouTube not in the dvd player. I never have it come on during a online video. It just bothers me in that the screen is all lit up at 3 am and I am too sleepy to get out of bed to shut it down

Sometimes I fall asleep watching a movie on my desktop (in bed, not at my desk!)...when I wake up hours later the screen saver never kicked in...sometimes it does, sometimes not...maybe I need "The Clapper" like the old lady in the tv commercial! Or?

Why is it when I do a google search I'll click on a result (web page) to view it, after I read the page I hit the back button and the screen turns pure white...then I have to refresh the page to get the google results again? is it a task-manager adjustment problem?

I did use the malwarebytes before I showed up here too so maybe I'm ok. Can some of that stuff like PC Optimizer lift your passwords or credit card numbers?

If I format or re-install Wxp would that wipe out the bad stuff?

It's gone ! (PC Optimizer) hopefully it's not hiding somewhere else, but it doesn't show up on program files in e/drive. I only ran the first two files you recommended, the junk remover seemed to do most of the work. Also got rid of spyhunter myself. Thanks for the advice!

I got this PCO stuck in my computer somehow. Occasionally I get a big box telling me to register blah, blah etc. I did a 'spyhunter' scan, it said it needed to be removed but I have to pay them to do it. I then ran the microsoftsafteyscanner and nothing wrong was found. Something to be concerned...

how do you turn it on?

that helps a little, but I had this thing on my desktop that got deleted that was rather novel in that it turned it all dark--I can't remember the site to download it from or what they called it.
