    What are my 'Network Credentials'

OK I have now been able to get my old Homegroup up and running. And it seems to be working OK. I can't seem to sort the Network fiasco so unless someone can suggest a simple answer I am just going to leave it. Thanks everyone for your help.

    What are my 'Network Credentials'

Thanks for your input. I have been trying lots of changes to get out of this problem but seem only to make it worse. I turned off network passwords in the W7 PC (my wife's) and this got rid of the 'Enter Network Credentials' msg. But it still not allow me to 'see' any useful folders or files in...

    What are my 'Network Credentials'

I am not sure what you mean by 'local account'. Both PCs have only one account each and they both have full admin rights.

    What are my 'Network Credentials'

I have a W10 pro PC that is ethernet connected to my Wife's W7 pro PC and until recently have been using the Local Network to pass files etc. between these PCs. Now, when I to look at the other computer, I get a window asking for my 'Network Credentials'. I have tried many different combos but...

Windows 10 start button and other controls have gone

I do switch off my pc every night as a matter of routine. What I meant to say was that I never needed to reboot (restart) my W7 pc to clear a problem. It's just that since using W10 I seem to be regularly having to reboot because of an issue, it does not seem to be as stable as W7.

Windows 10 start button and other controls have gone

Looks like I am going to have to wait until MS gets it's act together, hopefully on Aug 2nd. Can't wait! In the meantime I have updated Avast free and this included Javascript (something I had deleated) and now on reboot things seem back to normal. I had, very reluctantly, upgraded from W7...

Windows 10 start button and other controls have gone

I have a clean install of W10 pro on my Acer 64 bit pc. The system has been working fine until this morning when my taskbar started failing including the total failure of the Windows start button. Even the Windows key does nothing. On this forum I see this is a fairly common problem that seems...

    Windows 10, Notepad access denied

Thanks for the links to the ISO download . Looks as if I will have to do it via another PC as I don't have any admin rights on this PC any more. I have a few questions following any new installation: 1. Will the replacement W10 be the pro 64bit version as I have now? 2. I am using Windows Live...

OK looks like tomorrow now. I have been doing deep virus scans to make sure no issues. All OK. What's the best way to reinstall W10?

    Windows 10, Notepad access denied

So I tried to do a W10 reset and it asked if I wanted to keep my files and I said YES. It started the reset and got to 1% then it said there was a problem and did not give a reason! It said it would return me to W10 with no changes. This is impossible, what can I do now? Surely there must be a...

    Windows 10, Notepad access denied

Thanks for the link. I followed the route and entered details for a new account but after entering NEXT nothing happened for about five minutes and then a red message came up saying 'Something went wrong'. It does not say what or why. Sorry, but it seems that things are not going my way. I...

    Windows 10, Notepad access denied

Thanks, how do I create a new profile? It is not very obvious to me. I have gone to Settings, Accounts and then I don't know from there. If I go to Your email & Accounts my name comes up as Local Account Administrator. If i go to Sign-in options nothing happens.

    Windows 10, Notepad access denied

Thanks Johnb35 for the link but am not sure which download or action I need to get. All I have is the list. If I can't find a way to undo my erroneous actions of yesterday and get back my permissions then I will try the 'refresh' in the recovery section later today.

    Windows 10, Notepad access denied

Thanks for the link Okedokey, but the problem is that I cannot even get to my C: drive security control. If I right click on C: in Explorer, Properties and then Security, it displays message that says it is 'unable to display the current owner' and if I then try and 'change' it the sub window...

    Windows 10, Notepad access denied

I am sorry for all this work I am giving you, it looks as though I am going to have to wait until tomorrow to continue this saga. I do hope you or someone can get my admin rights back and get this PC back working again.

    Windows 10, Notepad access denied

I don't have a recent back up for W7 and have not done one for W10. It seems that the main issue is the fact I have lost my admin rights. I tried putting into the command prompt 'net user administrator /active:yes' and got the reply that I don't have access. I want to get out of this mess and...

    Windows 10, Notepad access denied

I have found the key, at what stage will I need it? I only had a problem after I tried to follow Okedokey's suggestion at the start of this thread. I tried to use Malwarebytes but access to my C: drive is denied. OK, I am going to try going back to W7 now. I will try to keep in touch using...

    Windows 10, Notepad access denied

The only thing different from this morning was to try to follow the instructions of Okedokey (see at the top of this page, he was the first person to answer in this thread). I have just tried Malware bytes and all I get is 'can't access this program'! it seems that many programs that need...

    Windows 10, Notepad access denied

Now I am even more confused! Two weeks ago I was using W7 64bit pro and had several programs that I had when I bought the PC. These included Photoshop and Office among several others I use regularly. Most of these worked fine when I upgraded to W10. indeed, until this morning, were still...
