    frustration

The download you got, is it an .iso file? Did you use the 'burn and image to CD' option, or did you just move the .iso file to the disc? You need to burn the image to CD. Also, you might look at the md5 hash and make sure your download was successful. The 'windows fail' message tells me...

    Canon or HP printer?

As I said before, inkjet printers are designed to waste ink-- that's where their money is. Unless you need large formats, card stock, or use the printer on a regular (but not continuous) basis, then a laser is the better deal.

In layman terms what is Google+

They still restrict pseudonymns; so I do not use it. Unless I make up a name (been done before, I am sure).

    Canon or HP printer?

I concur with Voyagerfan, and not just because I have the hots for Janeway. Seriously, inkjhet printers are designed to waste ink at every opportunity, and are only reliable and cost-effective if you are printing on a semi-regualr basis. I got a Samsung multipurpose color...

    File renaming

Kind of an old thread... think maybe he's solved it in the past three years? For the sake of argument though, I used a file manager in Ubuntu called Thunar which will rename .mp3 files in bulk uniformly according to their tag information. Comes in real handy.

    Partition

What Operating System are you running it on? This may partly be a 32-bit OS limitation. You could also try a diffferent partition editor such as GParted, the link is ofr the bootable download page-- make a standalone CD or USB drive and boot directly to GParted, and you won't have any...

    Harddisk Failure

Don't use your computer! Every time you turn it on, the hard drive spins up and that causes wear, which ultimately ends up in hard drive failure.

How to: Selling HP DV7, want to erase/destruct hard drive & restore to Factory

There are many data shredder programs available for download; find one that does a DoD level wipe (at least seven passes, random writes, etc), use it to erase teh entire drive, then perform a restore.

struggling to get remote access on 2nd router

I would isolate the D-link, plug a computer straight into it, then try to access it. You may have to reset the D-link to default settings, then try it again. ONce you have access, then change the IP to what you want, plug it into the Netgear and try accessing it again. If you need to do...

    network transfer

Explore2fs can let you access ext2 and ext3 file systems from within Windows. I under stand that Linux-Reader can do the same, plus ext4 file systems, but I have not tried this program, so I can't say how well it works.

Windows 7 cannot boot up, goes to repair manager

I second the memtest recommendation. This looks like a bad memory module.

    New Ram Install...Now Won't Load?

Do make sure you have the stick installed correctly. It may be that you have a bad RAM slot, as well.

struggling to get remote access on 2nd router

Do you have DHCP enabled on one, both, or neither router? Have you tried accessing the D-Link with a direct connection using a hard-line?

    Proxy server for security

There are dedicated linux-based firewall operating systems that can accomplish that, and they will run fine on that hardware. As Vipernitrox suggests, the key is to know what exactly you want to do.

PC for Watching Movies and Streaming

Frankly, if you plan on using Netflix, you will have to go with Windows-- Netflix uses Microsoft Silverlight for DRM and it is incompatible with Linux. If you are just going to stream video (Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, etc) and/or play optical (DVD, BluRay), then any basic desktop from *mart...

PSU Blew up, couple of questions for your guys.

It is entirely possible that the PSU damaged your motherboard or other components, particularly if there were some sort of power transient that caused the initial damage to begin with.

    RAM errors

You should have created your own thread for this, sadaf1230. With that said, unless you are an electronics mechanic (and if you were, then you wouldn't be asking this question) there is nothing you can do about it-- you have a bad slot or memory manager chip on the motherboard and neither are...

USB Focusrite Sapphire usb 6 not working until unpluggin computer from wall

The unit may be experiencing comm issues because it doesn't know the computer is off-- the power uspply still provides +5vdd to the USB ports even when off. If there is a separate power switch for your Focusrite, then make sure to turn it off first, then turn off the computer, and vice versa...

    Hate windows 7

As with any tool, everyone has their personal preferences. Part of that is due to personal knowledge-- if you don't know what each bell and whistle is for then having them is useless, if not downright counterproductive. Part is due to the tasks at hand-- if all you need the machine for is...
