Standard SSD/HDD Setup or Z68 ISRT?

Thanks for the advice, Benny. I have decided to adjust my rig slightly (cheaper monitor and PSU) so that I can get a 128gb SSD instead. This seems to be the value sweet-spot in the market right now and should offer me a bit more than just being able to house my OS. I stayed with the Crucial M4...

Standard SSD/HDD Setup or Z68 ISRT?

Thanks for the reply Benny, I was beginning to think nobody would! Anyway, I've been thinking about this and doing more research (). I came across the Intel 311 Series 20GB SSD which is a SLC-type drive. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Solid-State-Drive-311 It's slightly more...

Standard SSD/HDD Setup or Z68 ISRT?

Hi guys, I suspect the answer to this might be "Well, it depends how much stuff you use!", but I will ask the question anyway... Between a standard SSD/HDD setup (OS & key programs/games on SSD) and an ISRT setup (SSD as 64GB cache for HDD), which will I get most/best performance out of...

    New 2500k-based rig

Thanks for the tip there. I can save a bit of money by going for the AX650 PSU and get increased stability at higher loads thanks to its Gold certification. I have to say, however, I will be sticking to the Define XL. I love how it looks and nothing from the Lian Li range, that I've seen...

    New 2500k-based rig

Wow, that's some really cool technology (ISRT)! I think that may have just swung me in the direction of a Gigabyte board, but my new question is - Is it worth shelling out the extra £15 for the UD4 over the UD3 model? Nevermind, answered my own question, again, with a bit of research. It seems...

    New 2500k-based rig

Do those Gigabyte board have the UEFI Bios that the MSI or Asus boards come with? I was looking forward to that :) Nevermind, I found out that it does. What extra SSD features would I be looking at? I've not had any experience with SSDs to date. I was basically going to use it to house...

    New 2500k-based rig

Hi guys, Been a while since I posted here, but it's also been a while since I had a desktop. I have been running a Vaio-AW11Z for the past few years and, as much as I love some of the features on it, I have decided it's time for an upgrade! I am moving back to desktop to get back into...

    DPC Latency

Having some trouble with DPC Latency on my AW11Z/B. These latency spikes were first clearly noticable to me after a fairly severe virus attack (caused by a rogue megavideo site my sister visited). Now, I am pretty computer literate, but I have no idea where to start with figuring out which...

    Backing up Sony Vaio AW

Recently I have not been able to boot my laptop past the 'green bar' loading screen. I have tried system repair and system restore (both with no result). I have arranged for Sony to pick up my laptop for repair, but I have no backup of some personal files on the 2 HDDs. Is there any way I can...

    Alienware M17

    Alienware M17

Ah, yes! Of course, my bad. I was looking for a laptop to use for gaming as my current desktop is a bit 'past it's best'. I figured a laptop would be the best solution to use for university studies, too. Saves me having to buy 2 computers :) So, I applied for finance TWICE from Alienware...

    Alienware M17

This sexy beast just went up by £100 (damnitt). I was wondering about equivalent specs from other manufacturers at roughly the same price range (and lower). Or if the M17 is even worth the £1100 price tag?

Broadband Sharing on a NETGEAR DG834GT

I recently signed up to a Sky broadband package and they sent me a NETGEAR DG834GT, and I need to share the connection between two PCs. I have set up the broadband connection on one(the first) PC, and both PCs are connected (wired) to the router. I am experiencing a lot of connectivity...
