    32 bit and 4gigs RAM ?

It didn't take me anywhere near as long as it did for you apparently. :P I'm never amazed by anything you come out with. The 64bit release for each edition either comes in the retail package when buying it separately and not preinstalled or includes a coupon that comes along with...

    Hard Drive Problems

For one an external drive is intended mainly as a storage device even while it can bump the default boot device when added on in the drive list found in the bios setup. As for RegCure that would be a total waste of time there being intended as a retail cleaner/fixer for the system registry...

    RAM limit?

Putting it simple the board on that model simply doesn't support 2gb dimms to start with. The newer models now seen out see a much higher 4-8gb max with four dimm slots. If you want 4gb you would have to replace that model with something newer seeing more capacity to begin with. But even with...

    32 bit and 4gigs RAM ?

Those ended up being Vista pre SP1 listing being canceled since the new SP1 disks are now seen instock. The product page there doesn't have mention of the option to upgrade from the 32bit edition unless you see the coupon for 64bit included like they did with the Anytime upgrade offer for late...

    RAM limit?

The dv2000 is a general heading for that series of notebooks. That see two separate models being the dv2040TX and dv2023TU. http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/au/en/ho/WF10a/321957-321957-3329744-64354-64354-1817067.html Both see a 2gb max for memory. Sorry that likely sees only two dimm slots...

You better grab it while you can! Every place now sees Ultimate 64 as beind deactivated or unavailable as far as OEM disks to buy it separately. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2864286&Sku=M17-7418&SRCCODE=WEBINKPLP&cm_mmc_o=YztBBCjCmH4CjCmmVCjCmmV...

    Why You 'Hate' Vista..?!?!

What you need is a tutorial on how to speed things up in Vista like increasing the number of processors listed in the msconfig>boot tab.advanced from 1 to 2 for dual cores and to 4 with quads as well as following various blogs on things like "10 Simple Ways To Speed Up Windows Vista"...

    ubuntu on a flash drive

There's one person here at CF that can help you with that far better since he works regularly with Linux on servers on a day to day basis. tlarkin would be the one to ask for questions like this.

    *Official * Windows 7 Thread

MS is on a regular time schedule since the original release announced was 2010 not 2011. The first Release Candidate beta version is due out in June of 2009. At this time everything is still in the relatively early prebeta stages. SP2 beta is already on the system here with the final release...

    RAM limit?

The first thing to actually be looking besides anything conveyed by Geek nerds  is the specifications for which make and model laptop? That will show the maximum amount you can run there and what speed of memory is supported.

    Hard Drive malfunction

I have to agree that it sounds like either some large amount of bad sectors being reported or the drive's read/write heads are toast and any attempts to now see a working install go on are pointless. If the unit is still under warranty the best thing would be to see the drive replaced by that...

    64bit XP Pro or Vista?

With 4gb on at this time I hardly run XP for anything more then video capturing/editing since that part of the software won't work on Vista for some unknown reason while still being capatible. Some games wouldn't even install on the 32bit edition of Home Premium here being written strictly for...

    32 bit and 4gigs RAM ?

I just replaced a pair of 1gb dimms on the desktop here to see a pair of 2gb dimms by the same brand go in. The task manager seen in the 32bit edition of Home Premium shows a 3.581gb total and roughly 2.8+gb free ram available if that helps you any. With everything on that's a bit less then...

    Mixing RAM

There's some here on the forum running the 64bit version of Vista Ultimate with 2gb installed. The 32bit edition of Home Premium sees about 300mb more then XP reporting a steady 3.581gb with the beta release of SP2 now on in the task manager. Performance wise however the move up from 2gb to...

    Problem with icons...

If the desktop is loading up normally you could be looking at some type of setting change for desktop, appearance, etc. there. Try right clicking on the desktop itself and looking for the "arrange icons by" option seen there. There should be a "show all icons" setting or check box.

    No input on fresh build

By the time you get into the next build you will starting all over again since that will be seeing a totally newer set of hardwares to work with. While some of the basics will remain the same you can see how you missed one simple change with the cpu feed there.

    Motherboard IDE Problems....

With cables swapped and now a second drive running into the exact same thing I'm starting to suspect that the damage seen when the supply went on you may have been more severe then even they found when the board was sent in for repair. The one thing that's always enabled on most boards is the...

    ubuntu on a flash drive

If the systems aren't well maintained after everyone is done using them you can expect to see problems like that. The teachers will simply give up trying to undo any changes that students make until the person who sets them up has the time to go through them and bring them back. Besides ubuntu...

Motherboard only reads 384mb of RAM NEED HELP!

You can't get a lot done on weekends for sure! For any response from either plan on a good wait as well. The "8" points at 8 ICs while the memory you are trying to get sees parity which means a 9th IC for that purpose alone. I remember running into parity and non parity memory so many years...
