    Does your switch, or router, or modem have a firewall. If they do, you need to open ports on those. Also, make sure that your Antivirus isn't stopping files from transferring or something.

    Not everything will make it to its destination. Some of your signal is getting lost in the air. Walls effect your connection as well as a few other things.

    Do you have the cable running from your DSL modem plugged into the correct port on the back of the router. It doesn't go into a port on the switch.

    Maybe the LAN has a firewall, otherwise, your computer is erroring when connecting to the server. Maybe your POP3 settings or something are wrong.

    You won't have a gigabyte network if you get a 10/100 mb router. If you get a 10/100 mb router you really don't even need CAT6 cable, you can get something like CAT5 cable.

    To play online games you might have to open some ports on the routers firewall. I don't know how you could get more speed, other than trying to move your PC closer to the router. My router seems to split the internet connection between the PC's well.

    Revision C is the latest revision, I would think, because it comes after B. The plus might mean first edition. I totally don't know. If the manual if for your board, I don't think there will be many differences in the revision.

    98 might support long filenames, but not when it comes to networks. In XP, try to share a file with a name longer than 12 characters, it will give you an error when you try to open it.
