I'm at my wits end with trying to fix a video problem - HELP!

Might be a long shot but perhaps worth a try: I have been fighting a similar issue for about 3 weeks now. After a recent build, all the latest greatest fancy stuff, everything worked great. All of a sudden I can't open a video file in any media player. WMP, Winamp and Nero Showtime. As soon...

    Video files crash Media Players

I am trying to figure out why I suddenly cannot play any video files: All was well on a recent hardware upgrade - new mboard, CPU, RAM, video cards etc. A brand new system and a clean install of XP Pro with all the updates & patches. Video files played fine - no problem. Now when I try to...

    Mothereboard Repair??

The trick is to do it before the board dies, not try afterwards. Who knows what a dead cap will take with it.

    Dead drive recovery?

Well, I tried SpinRite on it - no cigar on that one. Though the drive shows in the BIOS as a 2 meg, SpinRite does not see it. Dang! I was hoping. Now I have to find some other ideas. . . . . . . . . I'm certainly open to suggestions.

I always toss the disk and download the latest drivers from the manufacturer. The single channel suggestion was only meant to try to see if it woould run, not intended as a permanent thing.

    Irql_not_less_or_equal

Have you considered a possible memory mapping issue? I had huge issues with RAM BSOD's with a laptop I had a couple years ago. Long story short, there was a piece of hardware that for whatever reason, attempted to reside in the same area that the RAM was assigned to. This caused the BSOD's...

    Dead drive recovery?

Though I have been building, fixing and upgrading computers for a lot of years, I have never actually tried anything to pull data from a dead drive, so I'm unfamiliar with spinrite and any others. I have 8 computers running in my house and many thousands of gigs of storage. The greatest...

    Mothereboard Repair??

Well it wasn't that I couldn't afford something new. . . . I just didn't want to go through the PITA process of reinstalling everything. I pulled everything off the HD and built a new system and now I'm slowly getting it back together again. It is only one of about 8 computers I have running in...

    Dead drive recovery?

I have an old Fujitsu MPE3170AT IDE 17 Gig that I am trying to recover 3 years of pictures from for a niece. Has any of you had success in this process? To be more specific, when I hook the drive up as a secondary master, it shows as scrambled hieroglyphics on the POST screen, followed by...

    my new laptop =]

I have the identical unit. It is awesome. Carry it anywhere, it grabs wifi very easily with any fiddling around. I walk into a coffee shop, turn it on, wait a few seconds and I'm online! Of course you have to scroll a bit more but who cares? Have fun with the new toy!

Using PC with a blown board

I can advise you based on personal experience: It is only a matter of time before the board will conk out. Bulging caps and one split means its days are numbered - very numbered - possibly in the single digits. One day your system will likely hang or BSOD or reboot itself where it will hang...
