the only reason why you wouldn't want to buy office 2003 from the web site is is you download the prog from them and get eh key sent to you. the prob with this is you don't get the instalation CD for future installs unless you pay extra. you can opt however to order the office 2003 cd package...
this all depends on where you live and what you are creating it for. if for the typical USA then US is standard and metric is the odd ball, but if anywhere else in the world pretty much then metric is the standard.
a good thing to remember when installing new progs is to read all the little check marks. there are a lot of them out there that will start running when the comp it powered up and if you have to many of these that are needlesly running it makes the log off a huge and long ordeal. there is a...
no you don't have to be worried about running it this way. if you aare still worried then when you do the function F-5 trick to get the set up projection to you monitor just do it I think two times. this will put all the output to the external monitor and none to the lap top one. if you see...

as long as the burner and discs match up then you are good.
IE.. - burner with a - disc and a + burner for a + disc.
unless you have a +/- burner then it doesn't matter what disk you use
check your setting on the cd-rom itself. i'm talking about were you can set it to slave or master. ensure that the primary is set on master and un-plug the other cd-rom all the way and just plug in the master and see if this works. if it does then set the second as a slave and plug the two...
if none of this works I would take it in and have someone look at it before you buy a new one. Dropping the multi drive might have jacked it all up. :(
try down loading the a new firmware for the burner. Just do a google search for firmware for that model and download it to your comp. then do the same for any updated drivers.
about the double layer. unless you have the money to spend on the double layer discs and can find them readily available then I wouldn't worry to much about this type. It won't hur to get one for when their media becomes cheaper, but right now their spendy. you can fit like 8.5 gigs on a...
