    $300-$400 Laptop/Netbook?

Alright, thanks! So basically the $400 Lenovo > $400 Toshiba? Also, I checked deal catcher and found a nice HP Presario for $419. Does the HP look even better?

    $300-$400 Laptop/Netbook?

Thanks for the input! Any ideas on where I might find a better laptop for this price? eBay? Something used or refurbished? Any particular models? Update: I just searched ebay for a while and I certainly am not finding much better for ~$400. I see laptops with about the same specs, but used or...

    $300-$400 Laptop/Netbook?

Hi, I'm headed to college and I plan to ship my current desktop there (see sig), but I'm going to need a laptop as well. I will mainly be doing MS Office work and internet browsing, but a little gaming and video capability would be great. I am not apposed to getting a netbook, but the turn...

XP won't boot after MB Chipset Update

Thanks for the reply. Any chance you could give me a few more details? I am supposed to edit the boot.ini file and simply add another line for my XP pro install? I should mention that since I posted last, I created a new 8gb partition on my XP home HDD and installed a fresh copy of XP pro so...

XP won't boot after MB Chipset Update

Hi Everyone, (Note: this is an OS issue, not a BIOS or hardware problem) I've been doing some overclocking and as such, I decided I would go ahead and update my MB. Before trying to flash the bios, I figured I would go ahead and install an available chipset update. I extracted the update...

Critique My Build - $430 budget PC

Hi guys, I order everything, so it's in the mail finally. My case got here today, the Rosewill Wind Rider. It seems quite nice for $40, but there seems to be one idiotic flaw: the front mesh cover, which is magnet latched, has to be opened in order to access the front USB and audio ports...

ASUS P5QL and ram at 1066mhz?

If you look in the Newegg "reviews" for this board, tons of other people are having the same problem, so you're not just unlucky.

    most stupid thing youve done

When I was 13, I was pulling into my mom's garage with her big SUV and got really nervous because I was taking it a little fast, so I frantically stomped down on what I thought was the brake, but was in reality the gas, and sent her truck flying into the garage wall. I smashed a wheelbarrow...

Critique My Build - $430 budget PC

I'm sure will try AMD some day, I've just heard that currently Intel has AMD beat, but apparently if my bigger was a little bigger, AMD would be the way to go... I'm still holding off on a mobo because not onlydid those deals disappear but so did the free shipping!! :(

Critique My Build - $430 budget PC

Great! Thanks again guys! Irishwhistle - I am biased because I have always run Intel, but I really appreciate the suggestions. The main reasons why I am tempted to stick with intel are 1) 45nm, and specifically the E5200 can OC like crazy (4+ghz for a $70 CPU!!) and 2) I am pretty familiar with...

Critique My Build - $430 budget PC

Sure! I really appreciate all your help man! Here's the wish list. The components not included have already been bought. http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=13328588 I must say I'm quite happy with the build but just need to decide on a mobo.

Well, since my last post, the deal on that asus mobo got marked up, but is still available at the same price but open box:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131329R http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128388 (add 7 s/h)...

Thanks a lot for the quick replies! I think I am pretty much settled thanks to all the help! bomberboysk - thanks again, and also for the promo oscaryu1 - Any particular suggestions for a Hec PSU? Keep in mind that OCZ is $50, but drops to $30 w/ MIR... However, this looks tempting...

Critique My Build - $430 budget PC

OK, now that I am ACTUALLY buying this stuff, some prices have changed so I have a few more questions about alternative parts (listed in order of importance): PSU: Is this PSU any good? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341012 This one went up in price...

Critique My Build - $430 budget PC

Great! Thanks for all the input everyone. I think I'll go ahead and buy all this stuff. OT question... Can Newegg ship everything in one box? I live in NJ and I hate tax, but I can't ship 10 different parts to a friend in PA.

Critique My Build - $430 budget PC

OK, so if a C2D and a Pentium Dual Core both have 2mb cache, (as in the cache of the E5200 and E4500), will the C2D still outperform the Pentium?

Thanks man! Unfortunately I already bought the HDD, which is a bummer now that you point out that deal, but at least the Green saves some energy. :( That memory looks good though! Thanks!

Critique My Build - $430 budget PC

I personally have read in many places that the Pentium Dual Cores are almost identical in terms of performance to the C2D's. The one thing that seemed to cause most difference was the general smaller cache sizes of the Pentiums, but this processor has a solid 2mb, just like my good ol' E4500.

Critique My Build - $430 budget PC

Ahh, thank you very much! I guess I'll steal the E5200 and get the pc power and cooling psu. Thanks! Um, I don't play COD4 anymore but even before I had my 8800gt, I could max it out. I recall that with my current rig, I was running it at well over 60fps. Have you been monitoring the temps...

Critique My Build - $430 budget PC

Haha! I actually was thinking I would probably take the E5200! My only concern is with overclocking flexibility though... As for the ram, I should probably just get 4gb, divide up my ram, and give us both 3gb, which should be plenty for running XP. Thanks for the advice. Do you have any...
