    Vista/HD movies? FORGET IT!

To extremely paraphrase the article, it's saying that unless your monitor and video card, on the hardware level, support the HDCP protection scheme, any high definition video content will be automatically degraded to 25% of the quality it is supposed to be. So, if you purchase either an HD-DVD...

    Vista/HD movies? FORGET IT!

You are 100% correct Blue. At the time though, I was in a unique position. eVGA offers a trade-up system for their cards. You have 90 days to trade your card in, for the full value you paid, for a better card. I initially purchased an AGP 6800Ultra and had 6 days to go in my trade-in time...

    Vista/HD movies? FORGET IT!

Believe me, i do completely understand what you are saying and truthfully, I have no intention of watching HD movies on my PC. What I am pissed about is the fact that if I did want to, I do not have the option. A few months ago I spent a little over $1000 on a board, 7800GTX, 2 WD HDD's, and 2gb...

    Vista/HD movies? FORGET IT!

Hey everyone...i've been neglecting my CF posting as of lately so i'm back, but, unfortunately, with bad news. Check out this article regarding Vista capability and graphics cards. This whole DRM crap is really starting to annoy me. You can bet that I will not be getting Vista until I absolutely...

    BF2 Dissapointed

I love the game but it does have its issues. Like mentioned above, there are issues with the weapons and "hit points". Also, people bunny hopping is ruining the game. From what I understand, a patch is in the works to eliminate it but as it currently stands, people are still able to jump around...

Newly built computer crashes when playing new games

In your nvidia driver tab, what is the temperature threshold? 60C shouldnt be too hot to the point where you are having issues. Also, to cover all potentials, maybe a power issue? On a side note, but related, What are acceptable operating temperatures for GPUs? I was playing FEAR the other...

    Strange problem with HDD

If nothing works, you can change the drive to make it a slave. Throw the drive in another computer, access any data you want, and back it up. Just make sure not to boot from your OS on that drive. Then, I would recommend formatting the drive, reinstalling your OS, and going from there. If...

Slave hard drive not working properly.

A couple things first....What motherboard do you have? One piece of advice I can give is to try putting your slave HDD on your secondary IDE line (along with optical drive, etc). For some reason, your IDE controller could be having problems differentiating between the master/slave on your...

This isn't supposed to happen, is it?

Well, I think that you are correct in stating that the heatsink should not be moving. It should be seated tightly and firmly. Hell, it's usually a pain in the ass to get those latched down securely. Is it an aftermarket heatsink? Are you 100% sure it's meant for that socket type?

    AGP or AGP2?

I HAD an nvidia 6800Ultra AGP card. It was made by eVGA. I guess, try contacting them to see if they have any left.

Personally, I thought the same thing. I had 27 processes running, defragged beforehand, and otherwise cleaned up my machine where I could. I do not have anything oc'ed though. Any advice? Why is my cpu coming in so low?

    SCSI vs. IDE/UDMA...Why pay more?

If you want to go with a more economical approach, invest in two WD Raptor 10,000rpm drives and run them in RAID 0. That is what I have for my current setup and it is EXTREMELY fast. I'll give you a couple examples for reference and these are all true, no exhaduration... -Windows Installation...

just for windows, 15,000rpm 8mb buffer

I have no idea how much that SCSI drive costs but I would recommend getting two of them and running RAID 0. With only one, you will notice, what I consider, a significant difference in boot time. In RAID 0, you would be stunned at the boot time. With that said, heed everyone else's advice and...

Thank you for following up. When you do that, you are helping people. Now, in the future, someone who may be searching the forums for the exact thing you posted about will be able to read this and know there are no issues with doing so.

    Power consumption of speakers...

Ok, not to change direction but I also have a question. Does this apply to all speaker systems (home theatre, PC, etc)? I just dropped about $1,200 on the Klipsch Quintet III 5.1 speakers, 10" Synergy Sub, and Yamaha reciever. The wattage that this system handles is insane. For example, the sub...

connecting a laptop to a desktop PC?

I recommend buying a router to anyone EVEN if they only have one PC. Not only does it offer a lot of flexibility for future purchases, but, it works great in helping to secure your PC from spyware and such. Routers are dirt cheap now and if you analyze the cost/benefit ratio, it's a no brainer.

Wireless Network - problems with signal

First question: Are you losing your actual connection to the router or is your connection to the router intact but no net connectivity? Which router do you have? Which standard does it operate on (A,B, or G)? What frequency? (2.4ghz) If it is 2.4ghz, keep in mind there are many household items...
