The programs that were on the computer are not visible from the start menu; neither are my documents in my folder. If I go to the "c" drive everything is there, just can't access it through normal means. Any idea how to fix this?

I think I'll try that. I just rebooted in safe mode and guess what, I was able to connect to the internet. I can only assume that something is lingering and who know what type of damage it is causing.

uh...I don't think so. It was my only drive connected with an IDE cable. No settings were changed, thats why I thought it must have been a power problem.

the connectors for my fans aren't molded to ensure the power connectors are in properly. This resulted in me flipping the connectors and damaging my hard drive. the drive will not boot at all. Is it possible to still recover data from it? what program would be best?
