    AMD or Intel can't decide

We just plain flat our disagree. I disagree with both of you completely, totally, thoroughly. Choosing a processor because of its socket is downright nuts. Period.

    Vista And Networking Issues??

The major difference is that Vista makes file sharing a little more complicated in a peer to peer network. The reason is that it shares only files in its public directory while in XP you can share anything across the network. With a domain enterprise network like yours, it won't matter at all...

    Vista 64-BIT vs 32-BIT

It's all a matter of the software you are using. If you are doing computer aided design or complex floating point math, the 64 bit system will make a noticeable improvement. With office productivity, it doesn't make any difference at all. The larger registers handle things like floating point...

    AMD or Intel can't decide

Actually, it is extremely good advice. Worrying about sockets is bad advice. Buy a mainboard with the socket required to fit and run your processor. That's it. It couldn't be more simple. When you decide to upgrade your system in the future, the most important part of the upgrade will be...

    OK Need New Hard Drive

RAID 0 will be less reliable and the performance increase only marginally better. I've seen a lot of problems with RAID 0 setups and I don't care for them personally. If your current drive is 60% or less filled, then the same size will be fine for you. If it is filled more than that, I would...

    AMD or Intel can't decide

The socket on your mainboard is immaterial. Processors are almost never upgraded. Choose whatever you like without worrying about the socket issue. Intels will be a little more powerful and more expensive. Intel to get the last scrap of peformance, AMD for better value. The decision is...

    Help Prcessor upgrade

The current celeron does. The older ones didn't. The celeron name has been around for over a dozen years.

    How to check com ports?

You should be able to get the COM port number from the BIOS. Most likely, since you only have a single one it will be COM 1.

How do I enable my USB keyboard in my BIOS

It's a good question and I'm not sure there is a very good answer. In your shoes I would either plug a keyboard into the standard keyboard port on the mainboard or get one of those USB to keyboard connector adapters to use with your keyboard while working with the BIOS.

will i be able to reactivate XP...

I've had it happen even with changes as simple as a graphics card. The key allows you to install it x number of times. When you exceed that, you will need to go through telephone activation which is a hassle but quite doable. Take care.

    Need NAS That Supports FLAC

You are making it way too complicated. NAS units are not servers. They are simply storage devices. They are no different than any other external drive except that they connect to a network. View the NAS as another hard drive. You can write files to it just like you can to any hard drive...

    Small business networking help

If you are setting up a peer to peer wired network, then any name brand router or switch with 8 or more inputs will do the job. Routers and switches are very reliable. They have no moving parts. I still use one that is 12 years old. I think this is probably the least important issue in your...

    Need NAS That Supports FLAC

It is the media playing software that has to support flac, not the NAS. The NAS is just hard drive storage shared across a network. You can use whatever media playing software you use now to decode flac with any NAS. The NAS is just another hard drive. My assumption is that the unit you...

    RAM upgrades on older computers

HK, increases in memory make a difference when the software you run will not fit in memory. That requires the applications to page to hard drive constantly or access a database on the hard drive rather than in memory. If this is the case, then any increase in memory size will have a meaningful...

Question getting wireless signal with a wired router.

The "strength" of the signal has nothing to do with the applications you want to run. It deals only with the reliability of the connection. If the connection is reliable then it is reliable. If it isn't, it isn't no matter how strong the signal.

    Small business networking help

No, I don't think using a domain server for 3 nodes is necessarily the right way to go. I said it was more secure and it is. I have no way to judge what the security requirements are based on the OP.

    external HD

The problem may not be a failing hard drive. It might be a hard drive that is nearly full or even a virus or ad ware on your system. Nevertheless you and me and everybody else should have back up. My recommendation is buy an external enclosure and put a SATA hard drive in it. The thing...

    Small business networking help

The best approach for high security would be to run a domain server with an appropriate server operating system. Peer to peer networks are not as secure.
