Chrome is up to date, running windows 8.1, uninstalled chrome then re installed it, no different. Only extension is click n clean. Also scanned with malwarebytes, no problems found. Also the same when using Firefox. Thanks for the advice

Despite what he told me it in not possible to get to safe mode, the previous screen which keeps asking for a password wont allow you to get there. He has now taken it to a local computer shop to see if they can sort it for him (dont think he has confidence in me) and is waiting to see what they...

He has managed to get to safe mode , whats next? run the scanners or manually remove bad programs. If so what should we look out for?

Not sure if it will go to safe mode as wont have time to look at it until the weekend. Its a desktop HP running 8.1 Do you still press f8 for this like in older versions of windows? If we can is it then just run the two scanners or is it more involved?
