I'm new to dvd burning. I've decided that maybe its better to buy some software insstead of millions of freeware. anyways, does anyone know of a decent software that decreases dvds to burn on 1 recordable dvd?

I want to burn some dvds but am not sure which to get. for long movies like harry potter & Lord . . Rings do I need double layer or could i shrink it to fit on a regular one? I know obviously regular dvd rw are much cheaper. would appreciate the help.
