i agree with geranimo.......if it's that old i'd go with ME....my pc is 5 yrs. old(athlon XP 500..ax59 pro motherboard...no frills video card) XP may be a curse instead of a blessing. I run ME at home and XP at work...ME works fine for me for what I do at home. Good Luck!!

I just use the freeware versions...good enough for what I get into. But I'm sure adaware's pro version is very comparable

yup.....when in doubt...reformat..i'd still try that spybot...best free spyware out there that i've seen...also try avg anti-virus...free also...good luck

I believe the main object here is to keep it from happening again...not just deleting what is there

I agree with jimbob.....been using Spybot for a month now and it is way better than other free spyware programs like adaware....for real time virus monitoring try AVG(google search...first hit)there is a free version...good luck

if your talking slow boot-up...try taking out some unnecessary programs or if they are needed take them out of start-up through msconfig...you say you ran adaware...try spybot...i ran adaware and tried "spybot search and destroy" and it picked up a ton more stuff. How old is your pc?? if older...
