    are you getting read/write error messages? once you're sure that its coming from the hard drive, that noise is one sign that your harddrive is dying.. i advise you make a back-up of your files as soon as possible..

    okay.. could you just give a little description of you computer? What OS are you using and how much RAM does it have? If you have too little RAM, running applications could put much stress on your pagefile and may even damage hardrive due to non-stop writing..

    why would you opt for oil submersion system? It just doesn't make sense.. it's messy because you'll have to put the dvd drive and hardrive outside.. if noise is the reason, hardrive and dvd drive can still produce noise/vibration if you put them outside so it wouldn't really make a big difference..

    actually you don't need a a huge page file if your RAM can handle all your tasks well, if you're not a heavy user.. so really, it depends on what you do with your PC.. If you get memory alarms then you better set the page file to a higher setting..

    you can actually go up to 4x your RAM. I have an old PC with 512 mb RAM. I set the paging file to 2GB.. it's doing fine..
