    Troubleshooting a Strange Issue...

Speaking of reboot, after the bios installed and it said "restarting," I panicked! I was like, Oh crap, I completely forgot the monitor may not turn back on! And then it did, and I was pretty sure it worked.

    Troubleshooting a Strange Issue...

Yeah, I really should have just did the bios update ages ago; thanks for the push. I can no see why it annoys you that people freak out about it. Took about 5 minutes. Probably one of the easiest things I've done on my computer. The connection is a wired one, direct to the router. But yeah, I...

    Troubleshooting a Strange Issue...

Hip, Hip, Hooray! :) SO, first funny thing. Remember I said I wanted to wait an extra day before flashing the bios because it was windy and stormy here? Well, the next day, a brand new BIOS update was added to Gigabyte's page for my mother board (f5)! SO that was a lucky break. Anywho, I...

    Troubleshooting a Strange Issue...

Right on, thanks for the heads up on the power setting. Yeah, I know my fear of the bios update is silly, but it's been hard to shake. The weather here today is a bit windy and stormy, but I'll give the bios update a go on the next nice day. Thanks for all the help!

    Troubleshooting a Strange Issue...

Darren, it's funny, I was just playing around in power settings again. Everything there seems fine, though I may try changing it from the "AMD Balanced" to the windows default "high performance" to see if anything changes. Yeah...I've wanted to do a bios flash for months now to see if that...

    Troubleshooting a Strange Issue...

OmniDyne, ah, thanks for the clarification. Well, I may have checked for updates early on when I first built the system, but since them I just let it update when it updates. Darren, I updated my graphics drivers (it actually did need to be updated), and I ran that furmark program for about 45...

    Troubleshooting a Strange Issue...

Darren, thanks! I guess I can try the drivers again. As I'm thinking about it, I may have only tried the monitor drivers (as I thought it was just the monitor), and I can't remember for sure if I tried the card drivers or not. I'll give that a go. As for Furmark, am I basically just running...

    Troubleshooting a Strange Issue...

Thanks! Sorry for the late reply here, I thought I had it set to email me when I got responses. So, yes, I have uninstalled/reinstalled drivers with no effect. It does not have the same issue coming out of standby. And I have Windows set to automatically update. I'm hoping it's not the...

    Troubleshooting a Strange Issue...

Okay, this is a weird one... I was having an issue with my monitor getting stuck in "power save mode" (no input detected) if my computer restarts. It ONLY happens with a restart. The only way to get my monitor to work again is to hard shut down the computer by holding the power button down...

    1700 VS 2700X?

Oh nice! I'll watch that now. Yeah, I have a 6-year old computer (my last build) running the intel i-3 3225 with integrated graphics. I think I have apparently *been* running quicksync, as far as I can tell, based on the strange convoluted video I watched explaining how to turn it on. I guess...

    1700 VS 2700X?

Eesh! Yeah, I just sought out the tweet you are referring to. I don't really know much about Quick Sync, but since I'm running Intel at the moment, I'm going to attempt to turn on the feature to see if I can use it in the meantime. I'm reading that quality drops a tad with quicksync, but most...

    1700 VS 2700X?

Thanks, Intel_man. I've actually watched this video already, and yeah, it gave me pause because I'll be strictly using Adobe software. I reconsidered Intel after this video, but in the end, I figured the software would hopefully get updates and perhaps not be quite as volatile as he describes...

    1700 VS 2700X?

Very nice video, thanks for the link! Kinda solidifying the 2700X for me.

    1700 VS 2700X?

Thanks! Yeah, I'm going to take that advice. I do want this to last a while, and this build is going to start off with a low end graphics card and 16 GB of memory, so after a while I can upgrade those elements, and maybe that aftermarket cooler as you said.

    1700 VS 2700X?

Jiniix and Darren, Thanks for the replies! Jiniix, gaming is definitely not my central focus, and if I game at all, it'll likely be pretty minimal (I'm a wretched console gamer mainly). :-p My central usage will be Adobe Suite (photoshop, illustrator, Premier), Handbrake, Word, Web, maybe...

    1700 VS 2700X?

That's true, plus sorta how I've been approaching this build anyway, so it makes sense. Thanks again!

    1700 VS 2700X?

Okay, thanks! That does change things a bit, as to get full performance from the 1700 I'd now need to purchase an aftermarket cooler, which decreases the price savings by a bit... I wonder then if the 1700 would still be best bang for the buck in that scenario?

    1700 VS 2700X?

Are you speaking strictly for the 2700x, or the same recommendation on the 1700? Thanks!

    1700 VS 2700X?

Yeah, i figured if I went 1700, I'd do a mild overclock--something I could pull off with the stock cooler--so maybe try for 3.7? I saw someone get to 3.9 with the stock cooler, but they had to run the fan at 100% to keep temps in check, which I would like to avoid. If I went 2700X, I wouldn't...

    1700 VS 2700X?

1700 + MSI B350 PC Mate = $290 2700X +Gigabyte 470 Aorus Ultra Gaming =$469 So I guess my question is does the 2700X + 470 MB provide a significant enough increase in performance to justify the extra $179 cost? I've read through TONS of benchmarks and watched scores of videos, so I have a...
