Cheapest build with the most potential.

Do you require peripherals such as keyboard/mice/monitor ? Monitors usually run about $150-$200. Maybe take a look at my build, it's around $970 (w/ a Samsung Synchmaster P2250 monitor, really great quality and low priced) Pick what fits your needs, just something to consider. GL

    $500 Budget build.

What's the purpose of this build specifically? If your considering gaming, it's definitely a commodity. If your doing schoolwork, surfing internet there's really no need, but it's up to you. The Nvidia card has higher mem/core clocks, but supports DDR2 Memory. While the radeon you picked...

    $800 Build ! MAJOR HELP PLEASE !

Glad to help, I'm pretty new to the scene as well. ;) Yes, you are 100% right, however in BIOS you can always change timings and reduce the cas latency (Assuming the ability). With that, Ripjaws series tend to easily oc and are more flexible with timing/latency changes. Here's some...

    $800 Build ! MAJOR HELP PLEASE !

Looks good, although I'm not fond of the PSU company. You can buy an Antec Psu that's more reliable for only a little bit more. Also, to save a bit on memory, you can go for these if you want. Good luck!

    Friend's Advice For New Build

Mhm cool, how bout performance wise? I understand this system is geared towards school as well as gaming. I've looked at benchmarks depicting the 5770 as better on various games. Although I dislike ATI for their drivers.

    Building a semi-gaming computer

Yeah 100% I enjoy computer forums because it's active and ironically I only got into computer building a month ago because of a friend. There's much patience involved in the strenuous process, but it will be more than worth it upon completion. I feel like I spent whole days researching and...

    Building a semi-gaming computer

Yeah, I completely agree with Joh. Unless there's a purpose for constant OCing and gaming w/ crossfire/SLI, an aftermarket heatsink is great and maybe throw in an extra fan or two. As for the case, I thought a comparison (from 3 plain cases that I selected) would help: Click As for case fans...

    Building a semi-gaming computer

Well, you might want to consider another tower for the sake of space within. You will definitely need room in there for maximium airflow and aftermarket heatsinks (can be quiet large in size) As for the procedure, I really don't know. However, that is one of the more difficult installations...

    Building a semi-gaming computer

Heatsinks generally transfer heat for either the GPU & motherboard. If you really get into it, even the memory or your HDDs. I'm not too fond of watercooling, but it certainty is an option.

Wants To assemble A Gaming Pc...

I'd go with the Phenom II x2 just because I would take a gamble @ unlocking :) If that's the case, a new motherboard might be a smart investment. Either Gigabyte or Asus mobos w/ SB 710 or 750 should do the trick. Just throwing it out there. :)

    Building a semi-gaming computer

Although I'm more of an AMD user, I'm in the same boat as you. The PSU may or may not be sufficient (Have about 10-15% leeway). You will have to estimate with a few calculators such as this one here The video card can definitely play up-to-date games, there are various sample benchmarks to get...

    GeForce 9800 GTX+ Vs. Radeon HD 4770?

I appreciate the insight from all of you, thanks a lot! Also great link for benchmarks. Considering wattage, I've used a couple PSU calculators, but they seem to vary most of the times. (At around 300-400 range) I think I'll get the EVGA Geforce 9800 GTX+ then, as for the GTS it's nearly $50...

    GeForce 9800 GTX+ Vs. Radeon HD 4770?

I posted a thread previously, but now I have an increased budget thus my questions :) 1. According to http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/ The 4770 outperforms the Nvidia card, but not by anything significant I think... I am having ambivalent feelings & I need help deciding between the two for...

My First Attempt - Budget Build

Sorry, I never realized it because I had to re-post prior. The computer will probably be used for school and some gaming/video editing. I'm not sure what heavy gaming actually consists of, but I do have interests in playing first person shooters/etc. Thanks -Mike

My First Attempt - Budget Build

You make good points and I see where you are coming from. How about this PSU? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139003 Also, I was considering using some of my old memory (Being DDR2) to cut back on costs. I have 3.5GB of DDR2 in this computer that I currently use...
