so is there any easy way to fix it then? or must i just deal with my current solution - to start up while plugged in..

    weird startup issue

hmm interesting... i plugged it into an external monitor and booted it up with the lid closed so that it would display nothing in its own screen, and everything worked beautifully. just before this, i booted up by itself and same problem as before - yet it goes away when on an external...

    weird startup issue

well i use this laptop often for work purposes - a.k.a. photoshop running most of the time with music playing and firefox open with several tabs. i know photoshop can take up a lot of cpu power, but with the other stuff running, im not exactly sure how it reacts under pure battery power. i will...

    can't activate hibernation

nothin like coming back to a really old thread!! but if it's still a problem, you might try to see if you can customize the buttons on the keyboard, just to check that they're doing everything right, i dont know if you have a program to do this with, but give it a try?

    linksys Wireless Router

the packets basically show you that you're communicating with the router itself - and with the network. if you can connnect with other computers in your network, everything is fine. if not, you still need alittle work.

    Dells on Ebay?

Couple of things for anyone interesting in buying high-valued items off ebay: 1. if the price seems to good to be true, it most likely is - don't trust anyone who is offering the product at extremely low prices - i mean like a "new" laptop for less than $500 when it's otherwise well over...

Would an upgrade from 1G to 2G be noticeable?

If you have only 1x1gb stick right now, and 2 slots available, then you can definatly support 2x1gb sticks of ram. go for it.

    lost files

If they are truely still there somewhere, you can just do a standard windows search with the criteria "*.jpg" (enter exactly what is in quotes), or substitute whatever other image file types you want to search for (gif, bmp, etc..). oh , and be sure to check the box to include searching in all...

Truthfully... how difficult is it to build a computer

you could pump up the processor a bit -- to at least 3ghz or even 3.2 ghz -- still dual though, otherwise very nice build. is it a standard case and mobo, or you just customizing?

This is going to sound stupid but stay with me

i would just go and infect it with the amish virus (manually deleting crucial system files). this way you can keep it around after it is "broken" and reinstall whatever os you prefer just so you can have another comp around - which may be useful at some point. at least it will appear quite...

    Ram for my PC?

just go to www.crucial.com and there's this pretty nice tool that tells you exactly what kind of memory your computer will take - even if you don't buy it from crucial you can at least see what you will need to get. good luck in the shopping.
