Disk Cleanup in Windows 8.1 running by itself

Sorry for the delay in replying to this thread. I figured out who the culprit was. It was the scheduled task "Regular Maintenance." I figured it out by going though the tasks one by one and turning off the option of the task stopping if my computer wakes from being idle. This kept the disk...

Disk Cleanup in Windows 8.1 running by itself

Well, it was due to you that I poked around in the Task Scheduler. I hadn't thought to do that before, and subsequently found the idle time settings, which so far seems to be working. Fingers crossed. Credit given where credit is due. Thanks

Disk Cleanup in Windows 8.1 running by itself

I might be onto something. I found that I can alter when the tasks start after being idle for X amount of time. I bumped em all up, so I will go back to my movie and see if I am interrupted again in five minutes. Here's a screenshot of my C:\Windows\tasks\

Disk Cleanup in Windows 8.1 running by itself

These tasks were set to go off every day or so. I'm new to Windows 8, so I don't know if these are part of Windows normal operations or not, and if it would be wise or not to disable them. Is your "Active Tasks" blank except for the flash updater? I'd like a nice list of what each of these...

Disk Cleanup in Windows 8.1 running by itself

I just checked. There's quite a few items in there, but the only ones that I can think of that could be causing this are "idle maintenance" "manual maintenance" "manual maintenance" and/or the "maintenance configurator" From what I just Googled, it seems that the maintenance configurator...

Disk Cleanup in Windows 8.1 running by itself

Hi, I'm having a strange problem. If I let my PC idle for around 5 minutes, the disk cleanup utility pops up and analyzes my PC, then leaves the window open showing what could be cleaned up, etc. However, if I move the mouse, the window vanishes. I'm running Win 8.1, and I have two hard...

ASUS Maxima LGA 1150 motherboard CPU cooler incompatibilities

Yeah, my Cooler Master was like that, had a special backplate. The tabs that you screwed it down on moved in and out, depending on what LGA socket you had. I don't remember exactly, but I think it had a pass-through behind the CPU so I can install a new cooler ... at least I hope it does. I...

ASUS Maxima LGA 1150 motherboard CPU cooler incompatibilities

I did this when I first built the computer. I didn't even try the stock cooler before I attempted to install the Cooler Master.

CoreTemp is flagged as malicious in Chrome

I just built a new PC and I was unable to mount a large CPU cooler due to other components being in the way of the clamp that holds the heatsink down, so I installed the stock cooler that came with my CPU (an i5). I'm worried that the stock cooler won't be sufficient while playing games at...

ASUS Maxima LGA 1150 motherboard CPU cooler incompatibilities

Hello, I've recently built a new PC. It has an ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO LGA 1150 Intel motherboard. The cooler I was trying to connect is a Cooler Master Hyper T4. The problem is that the motherboard had some on-board heatsinks around the CPU. The Cooler Maser uses two brackets on either side of...

Help me identify a plug from my case.

Mystery solved. It was the very last thing I plugged in, and only because it matched the front case fans and the plug wouldn't go on a fan power jack on the motherboard did I figure it out - the case's huge side fan. Plugged it into a special power cord that game with the case from the PSU...

Help me identify a plug from my case.

I think you're right. I just finished cable management and found two more that had plugs in them snaked though the back/inside case. I guess it's a mystery as to what that stray one does, since I have nothing to power it with, unless I unplug one of the others and plug it into the stray. I think...

    That's what I thought, thanks.

Help me identify a plug from my case.

I'm at University right now, so I can't tell you in all my fans can be connected. I have two front fans that are powered via a molex connector, a rear fan that plugs into the motherboard, and a side fan that I have not hooked up yet. I didn't see any power on the motherboard for it, or I am just...

Help me identify a plug from my case.

Help me identify a plug from my case to my motherboard. (I tried to change the subject line to "Help me identify a plug from my case to my motherboard. for clarity, but it didn't seem to work.) I just bought components for a new build. I've been assembling it after an external build was...

    Building a new i7 machine .

Yeah, I dropped it back down to 16GB of RAM after I made this post. Also, the wristband is for a college course, have to buy my own. It just got copied in there by accident.

    Building a new i7 machine .

Thanks for the feedback. I've changed my config some. Dropped down to an i5 that was virtually the same speed as an i7, and dropped down to a more reasonable CPU cooler since I don't plan on overclocking it. Doubled the ram to 32GB since the downgrades gave me more of a budget, and "upgraded" to...

    Building a new i7 machine .

Hello all, I'm building a new i7 machine, and wanted some feedback. My spreadsheet is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmYrADLtM7ZTdEhwdFZXWjJTVUFzM0I4NkJYTVdoaFE#gid=0 Can I get some opinions on my choices? I added notes for all the components as to why I felt they are...

Help me justify (or not justify) buying an i7 over an i5

Thanks for the feedback. It looks like I am leaning towards the i7. I'm a little intimidated about overclocking my CPU as I don't want it to fry itself and me having to try to explain to Intel how it fried without telling them I overclocked it (does overclocking void a warranty anymore?) My...

Help me justify (or not justify) buying an i7 over an i5

I'm building a new PC next week, and I wanted to get some feedback on core i7 vs core i5. I want this computer to be as future proof as possible (within reason). I've been looking at a comparison between two models to get an idea of what the differences are. Besides a very small performance...
