My laptop broke and I've got vouchers for £440 that can be used at Dixons, Currys, PC World and The Link to buy a replacement.

Which one should I get? Please help, I don't want to make a bad choice again (my last one which broke FIVE times was a Compaq and I'll never buy another of those again)

I'm thinking Dell or Samsung?

Thanks in advance. I'd like to pick this up today so quick help appreciated!

What do you think of this one...

I have a quick look, and I find these 3, I think they are better than Packard Bell you've chosen .

Acer Aspire 5735 15.6" LaptopProduct code: 118922 £430
Intel Core 2 Duo processor T6400
(2.0 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 2MB Cache)
Windows Vista (R) Home Premium
3GB memory
250 GB Hard Drive
Built in webcam
DVD RW SuperMulti Double Layer
15.6" Screen
Mobile Intel GM45 Express Graphics Card
3 No. of USB Connections

Dell 1545 Blue Laptop Product code: 557073 £400
Intel Core 2 Duo T5800
(2GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2MB Cache)
Genuine Windows Vista(R) Home Premium
3GB Memory
250GB Hard Drive
15.6" Widescreen Screen
DVD/RW
Wireless Enabled
3 No. of USB Connections
Blue Colour

HP G70120EM Laptop Product code: 985907 £450
Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 Processor
(2GHZ, 800MHz FSB, 2MB Cache)
Genuine Windows Vista(R) Home Premium
3GB Memory
160GB Hard Drive
17" Widescreen Display
Blu-ray with DVD ReWriter
Nvidia Graphics 9200 (256MB dedicated)
Wireless Enabled
Built in Webcam
(Delicated graphic card with blu-ray rom. good value, but it is 17", heavier)

I personally would choose between HP and Dell. bty, T6400 is faster than T5800
Ammm... Dell over vairous color £400 1545 with T4200...
I am not sure how much difference in performance between T5800 and T4200. They should be similar. Just get the color you like, but the T5800 one with a larger HDD...

Don't rule out Compaq/HP just because you had one bad experience. Just like any other product, sometimes you get a lemon, but overall my experience is that HP is considerably more reliable than Dell for a similar price.

How much better are those Core 2 Duo Processors compared to the Dual-Core one with the Packard Bell?

I'm still leaning towards it because it has a huge HDD, 4GB RAM and looks nice.

From what I have heard, T5800 perform similar to T4200 as T5800 is based on 65nm, while T4200 based on 45nm. I believe T6400 > T4200 ~ T5800

RAM: I would expect Packard Bell have install 64bit windows to ultilize all 4 GB RAM. Ask before you buy. If it is 32bit, 3GB or 4GB being installed viturally make no difference.

CPU/ HDD: I personally would opt for a faster CPU. It is because it would be hard to change the CPU yourself; while for HDD, you could always buy an external one for storage.
