I don't kno if I should buy the parts from newegg and get someone else to build it or *gasp* maybe I could build it, or get one from like dell something. Could you guys help me out here? Oh ya I need it to have XP/Word.

And Yes, I need speakers, monitor, mouse, keyboard.

i will tell you straight up that it isn't hard to build it yourself... and you always have help here if you need it...

and you need to tell these people a budget and EVERYTHING you need... like mouse, keyboard, speakers, monitor, etc.

and know that if you don't have xp or word that will cost you a significant amount of money... probably in the 200-300 dollar range

Here are the best specs I could get for $1,500 from dell.

This is with XP and Word, and for this price I don't think its that bad.

Thats horrible for $1500, especially if you want to play any kind of new game on it.

That computer would not handle new games particulary well.

Build one yourself instead. If you wait a few hours, there will be lots of people in here with suggestions on parts for you own build.

Well theres 2 problems with building my own comp. The first problem is when I touch mechanical things they don't work anymore, and second I can't pay monthly for it.

dell xps 210

hey... i looked at the specs you found on the Dell XPS 210,
and I think it's a great deal. I'm not sure why someone was saying
you couldn't play games on that thing. It's got the E6400 core 2 duo,
a 256 mb video card, and 2gigs of memory. It'd do fine.

well just so you know, that isn't anywhere near the best one out there... and for the money, it could be hand built for cheaper... tweaker saying that it won't be acceptable to play video games shouldn't be taken the way it was, he was getting at the fact that it will only play games on low settings, maybe medium... and the size of a video card isn't the only factor he was looking at... there's also pipelines, clock speed, etc.

Luckily the only thing mechanical are the fans, hard drive, and cd/dvd drives :p

You can pay monthly if you buy parts from Newegg, they even have no interest for 90 days or so I believe.

Well, I use a really old ATI AIW 9600, and I can play some newer games on low to medium settings. The x1300 isnt TOO bad.

but even you said SOME... believe it or not, some can play ALL... (for now anyway)

we're just saying you can build stuff better than they are offering a prebuilt version for...

X1300 is WEAK. The X1600 which ATI rolled out to be the mainstream competition against the 7600GT got crushed. The X1600 is 2 "steps" above the X1300. It's not even remotely as powerful as the X800's from the previous generation. Basically, it isn't worth the time of day.

Heck, you can get betterMOBILE GPU's in alot of Dell's laptops then that has in it. I mean...if all you want to do is play games that are a year or 2 old now, surf the net, and do some productivity stuff, then that computer is PERFECT. But if you want to get your mone's worth, then it'd be best to keep looking.

Edit: Ok, here's a quick, rough, and dirty build for you from memory.

E6300 - 180
Gigabyte S3 - 115
Evga 7600GT - 110
1GB 800Mhz RAM - ~110-130, depending

Ta'da. You can use your old hard drive till you can get another one. You can either use Linux, or you could even use Vista RC1 as your OS till you can get the cash for an actual OS later. That computer will be FASTER, and BETTER. A new HDD will be ~100 bucks for a good, 250-350GB model. Sound, you can use the integrated. Ethernet comes with that board. Honestly, what more do you need. YOu're saving money. Buy a cheap case and read the directions, and install it.

^ Time to start asking questions, reading, and learning then. You can learn to save yourself plenty of cash.

A little more than $1500, and some changes can be made to bring it down (eliminate the 10k HDD, downgrade CPU or GPU). Alot of it depens really on what you are going to do with this computer. If you are going to be a big gamer, you need good graphics mostly, seconded by some good memory and a good cpu. If you are also going to be storing lots of music, etc, on your computer, you need bigger hard drives. Stuff like that makes it hard to configure a computer for someone if you don't know what you're going to use it for. Overall though, this will be an excellent computer that will last a long time.

EDIT: I forgot to include an optical drive with that (a DVD+RW, for example), but one would run about $30. CD+RW/DVD-ROM Combos run about $18-25.
