Okay, my friend saw the comp I built in sig., and wants me to build one for him, cuz he was about to drop like, $2,500 on an alienware. He say's I've got $2,300 to work with, not strict, and that he will have another $700 or so at Christmas to upgrade. I was tihnking getting a 7800GTX on a SLI mobo and having him buy the second one at Christmas, and also getting 1Gb of great RAM now, and having him get another gig when he upgrades. Also, a second SATA II HDD for RAID 0 when he upgrades. This is what I've got ready so far:

AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 - Zalman 120mm cooling
ASUS 7800GTX
Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro SLI
X-Navigator - 500W PSU - 34A-12v
1Gb OCZ DDR500 Cas: 2
250Gb SATA II - Windows Home SP2
Dual Sony DVD-RW Burner

Sound good? Would anyone suggest Dual core over FX?

You should be able to get alot more than that for $2300. The rig in my sig cost my around $2185.

Don't buy that processor its a waste of money. Thats what I'm trying to say be smart about what you are buying and you can get more proformance for what money you are spending.

well.. he can spend the monney of somebody else.. :p

anyway. get a 3000+ and OC it to 2.7GHz. then it has the same ferformance of that $820 processor. while it only costs $120.
that fx is really a rip-off. and for the monney you save, you can get a 2nd 7800GTX instead.
that would be a much wiser choice

Okay, there is no way in hell im getting a 3000+ with a 7800GTX, lol. My friend doesn't want me to overclock it too much, he's too into "protecting his investment". Realistically, what do you think of 4600+ or 4800+, get a second gig of RAM now, and get 2nd 7800GTX when he can spend that $700 later.

How about 4400+, cuz I want the 2Mb L2 Cache (2.2 Ghz can always be overclocked, Cache can't). 2 Gigs OCZ DDR500, and BFG Tech 7800GTX. Is BFG tech 7800 better than ASUS? reaons?
