2 Questions about my net speed.

Hi there.

Basically im with Tiscali and I am on there 1meg package.
I am useing the Belkin wireless G router as we have a network at home.
My internet is apporling, the fastest download speed is 16kbs, it never gos any higher than that, and i think you will agree for a 1meg connection thats just stupid!

So basically my question is: how would i be able to fix this issue or should i just get another ISP?

any help would be useful in this matter, so thanks in advance.
 
If you want a higher download speed, then get a higher speed connection. Your download will never be the same as your actual connection speed. I rarely go above 100kbps with a 3.3mbps connection, that's normal, there's nothing to fix.

also you have to realize how bandwidth works. You can only download something as fast as it can be uploaded to you. Also, you probably have a 1megabit connection, your router can allow up to 100mbit wired and 54mbit wireless, so its faster than your internet connection anyways.

Also, since every OS out there is built on multitasking it limits everything you do to make sure there is a blanace in performance. You could have software configuration issues or software problems causing slow downloads.
 
i got 512 kbps conection and always get download speed bout 50-60 kbps.
Pretty good i think for a cheap conection.
 
it really depends on where you're downloading.. because usually its the upstream of the server holding you back ;)
I downloaded from Fileplanet with 2Mbit down already, wich was about the fastest download ive ever seen
