I would like to future proof my spending, and would like to know if a P4 3.2Ghz E 800FSB with 1MB L1 Cache Socket 478 will work in my ASUS P4PE 533FSB Motherboard.

I called ASUS Tech Support a few times, but they have not returned my calls or sent email.

I currently have:

P4 2.4Ghz 533FSB
Win XP
ASUS P4PE Mobo Sckt 478.
ATI 9800 Pro VC
768MB RAM (Corsair PC2700 Platinum)

Any help you cvan give me appreciated!!!

It will work no doubt, but you wont be able to get the juice out of your 800FSB processor, as the ultiplier is fixed, say for 3.0Ghz multiplier will be 800FSB * 3.75 = 3000 Mhz, then on 533FSB, this fixed multiplier will show like, 533 X 3.75 = 2000Mhz approx.

see the BIOS revisions, as if uyou can upgrade your BIOS to some up level, then it may help out, as BIOS revision sometime enables the Mobo to support higher bus processors.

if you have 533 Bus Processor, then i'll recommend buying Intel 3.06 HT, with 533 Bus.

also, you are asking for the Prescott (3.2 L2=1MB) it definately will not work fully, better change your motherboard to either Asus P4P800 or Asus P4C800 (high choice)
