95 game on xp

I just pulled out an old copy of Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries and wanted to play it on my xp system (the cd drive on my 95 comp is dead). I tried to run the installer, but it kept failing. Is there any way I can install the game? I thought I saw something about making old programs run in the control panel or somewhere, but have not been able to find anything. Any ideas?

Just tried the wizard, and it didn't work. I keep getting an error right after it asks me to register. Could the program be trying to access a website that doesn't exist anymore?

If that game ran in dos as well as in WIN 95 you could try your luck with the ultimate 8bit, 16bit dos simulator know as DosBox. This is one freeware that will create and mount a virtual drive for running old apps and games. Now where was that screen shot of the original 8bit version of Duke Nukem?

The new home page for DOSBox is found at http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1

You need an windows 9x environment emulator to play MW2 Mercs 95 edition on XP.

You can try http://www.netmech.org/ I don't think it's still working but the jist of what they were doing was using the DOS version of the game to play. I have tested it and it does work. The DOS installer that is included on the MW2 cd didn't work for me, using DOSBOX will probably work.

Thanks guys. After making my last post, I tried sticking the game CD into my 95 computer and it worked! I'll still look into that DosBox though.
