A good Registry cleaner? Is it needed?

What is the best free Registry cleaner? and is it needed to clean your registry? how do you know when it needs to be cleaned?

I only ever clean it when I have maybe un installed something like Norton AntiVirus as they leave lots of files behind, but if you are going to start cleaing them be carefull its not really something you should play with for fun :)

I sue Tune-Up Utilities 2006. It does a very good job of cleaning the registry, and it has never deleted anything that i needed.

Manual edits of the system registry are a totally different matter with great
word of caution to mention here. When a manual edit has need those with the
experience with dos can fully understand the "hives" seen in a system reg. It
is with a great of caution that new values can be added as well as deletion of
what is termed "orphans" there.
