hey hey,

I don't know much about this kind of thing but I have to choose between an AMD AM2 Athlon64 3800 - Dual Core(i assume this is like an Athlon64 X2-?), a Pentium D-3.4GHz (945) and a Pentium 4-3.6GHz(661). I guess they are pretty different but i just want the best value money. I am gonna use it for some gaming but nothing crazy mostly gonna be using visual studio to make some windows apps...maybe some video editing. I dunno I just don't wanna buy something that sucks. That cpu 101 was quite helpful but i'd just like to know which is the best general performer out of these three. I'd really appreciate some advice.

thanks, Jay.

p.s. If there's some other stuff in this price range that's better I might be able to get it so let me know thanks.

Myself, I would get the AMD if those are your choices. If you can spring a few more bucks, though, I would certainly go for the C2D.

ok thanks, yeah that makes sense-I dunno the AMD is like R200($20) cheaper than the intels though. Is that like the right kinda price do you think-? I could probably get the the 1.86GHz(E6300) core 2 duo...does that take these three apart-?

If you can, get the Core 2 Duo. Otherwise, get the Athlon 64 X2.
