AGP vrs PCI?

Could someone give me a little insight in what the diffrence is and what would be best to upgrade to from a Radeon 9600?

Thanks in advance:)

PCI is much slower than AGP, and the PCI bus is shared with other devices, which can add to even more of a slowdown. AGP and PCI-E are dedicated ports and can not be shared, but PCI-E x16 is theoretically twice as fast as AGP 8x.

Depending on your budget, the 7800GS for AGP would be one of the best cards you can get.

you cant really ask what difference would be noticed without first saying what your upgrading to...

You might find this page handy to make up your own mind on the subject http://www.tcmagazine.info/articles.php?action=show&id=127&perpage=1&pagenum=1

I would go for PCI-e.

As for what to choose that depends on what you want to do with the system.. Gaming or workstation or general surfing and emails? im guessing gaming?.. in that case i would go the nVidia 7600GT for cheap and 7900 series for somethin more top of the range.. of course in PCI-e.. mainly to future proof yourself and to have more upgrape options as new cards come out.
