AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.4GHz?

Ok. I got a HP desktop a couple months ago. I dude at Circuit City said it was a 2.4 GHz processor and whenever I look up the model number (a1510n), it also says it has a 2.4 GHz processor. But my issue is this. When I go to my system properties, sometimes it'll say it a 986 MHz processor and other times it'll say it a 1.8 GHz processor, but never does it say that it's at 2.4 GHz. I checked the BIOS and it said its running at 2,400 MHz, which is correct, but why does my system properties never say 2.4? And when it says 986 MHz, is it running at 986 MHz? Any info will help. Thanks guys.

It's probably AMD's Cool & Quiet working. I know my X2 4200 switches between about 1.1GHz and 2.2GHz. And my Sempron 2800 goes between 800MHz and 1.6Ghz.

Hmmm, I'll have to run a newer game and then check the system properties as it is running and see if the 2.4 GHz kicks in. Thanks guys. I'll let you know when I do it and see what happens.

it will run slower if you're on battery and didnt use full power option and also if you plug in the a/c after you power up the machine too and that will happen.

Okay, and how often do desktop computers run solely on batteries?

He was refering to the comment about the laptop mentioned above. But I agree LOL. :P :P :P You can also disable the cool and quiet feature.

There's a program called SpeedswitchXP. It's mostly for laptops, but you can set it on max performance on AC for an easy easy way to disable cool and quiet... I've done it on my desktop a few times, but I use it all the time on my lappy.

the best i can tell you is to go download a full version of lavaly's Everest. it will tell you anything you need to know about your computer.
