hey all,

i was going to pick this up yesturday for only £49in the sales.
its a Athlon 4000 Motherboard and Processor Bundle.

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=99618&criteria=cpu bundles&doy=27m12

i know its skt 939 and outdated still but i know it would be a huge upgrade from my skt A sempron (not saying the sempron isnt good though)

should i have got it? the reason i didnt is because

1)Not sure uf my psu (450W) could handle it.
2)not sure if it would fit in my Hp case as the board looked big
3)had pci-e slot so i couldnt use mt good old AGP 9600 pro in it :(

Not knowing how many amps your PSU is pushing, it's hard to say. I did run an Athlon 64 4000 on a 450w, but I think it had around 30A on the 12v rails.

The mobo make was listed so you should be able to find the size specs and measure your current mobo(and any remaining space inside the case)

Well, that card is rather dated... Why not look into upgrading it and maybe even the PSU at once?

i looked on the side of my psu and im sure it said 16A on the 12+ :D
it is a cheap psu.

nah no way would have that motherboard fit in my hp case, the motherboard i have in there now is quite small but that one was long.

i know my system is very outdated but im not upgrading it or gaming as im probably going to get a ps3 the time the new gta game comes out so all gaming will be done on that.

what cheap dual core would you recomend?

Well going from a Socket A. Socket 754 or 939 would be a upgrade. Unless your just trying to save money and not buy Ram you would be better off getting a lower end AM2 processor and a AM2 or AM2+ board. Atleast later you would have the upgrade path for some type of Phenom processor and not be stuck with having to upgrade all your hardware all over again.
