Is there anyway to backup a file thats being written to... say a .dat file in yahoo that has msg archrving...

I was wondering if there was anyway to write that to another place too, unknown to the yahoo user... so after they deleted there archive its still saved somone else also?

With a dat file like any type of file on a local drive duplicates can be made as long as you have administrative access on the system in question. With messenger itself you can archive incoming and outgoing messages with a freeware known as PowerPop found at http://www.tucows.com/preview/302017

For making backups of any file stored at an online location you would have to have direct access to the account. There are also decoders for non signed in viewing. But these are getting into a touchy area there! That is considered "spying" on others.
