booting up

On booting up my computer will go through the process until it comes to loading my icons then it freezes and has small vertical lines at the top of my screen

This does not happen on every boot up but when it does i have to reset it several times before a proper boot exists.

Running win 98.
 
Welcome to the world of Windows... LOL, I'm just kidding. When your computer does load up properly does it run pretty slow? If so, you may just have a problem with excess spyware. Try running a spyware program like ad aware or something to clear up some space and see if that works, if not, formatting your hard drive should definitely take care of the problem, it works for almost everything. Some more experienced members may have other ideas though.
 
Well this seems like a graphics card problem, as when i had a Matrox card i had green lines on my screen (vertical) and this was due to the chip being heavily scratched
