broadband connection

i have just bought my laptop, and assumed that i could just stick my broadband connection staright into my laptop, but when i do, all it says is that i have little or no connectivity.

any help solving?? the broadband is via ethernet by the way

restart the modem. Unplug the modem for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and then connect the laptop to the modem.

You did configure your Local Area Connection ? Use the Windows connection wizard.
