Broken Pin on Hard drive

A while ago, my parents started complaining about thier computer not booting, and after a while, i found out why. One of the pins for the IDE attchment was bent to the side and cut in half, i dont know if this would contribute to a "missing or corrupt" windows operating file, but id be thankful for any solutions. Getting new hard drive is the last option id like to have. I know that it may not work, but would hooking it up as a secondary drive on another computer and trying to manually replace the file do me any good?

It can't be a good thing, but if the drive is still detected it shouldn't be a problem. What is the exact error message?

Hey

I am sure that it could in fact have caused your problem. Each pin has a role of its own and if the contact between it and the cable are poor (your case I could mention), then the function that opin may have could be malfunctioning.

Here's a thing you may want to have a look at: http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/ide/confSig-c.html
