Building a PC over several days...

Just in case this happens to me tonight, if you have to stop building and resume the next day, are there any good practices for what to do with the exposed components? Cover them with something? Is it okay to just leave them out? (No one will mess with them, so that's not an issue.)

Thanks.

If things are already in the case, just slide the case cover on. For those products that are just open, place them back in their static-proof bags.

I used to build computers for a living, until I got fired, but what I always used to do was store the components in water and put them in the freezer, to preserve them. Sometimes the parts didn't always work afterwards, but I think they came defective anyway, so it wasn't a big deal.

I'm just kidding. Your parts would even be alright sitting out (I wouldn't recommend it though, because its probably not great for the actual connectors) but think about how nasty they get in your case if you don't clean it every month or so. But yeah, just listen to voyagerfan99

I thought you were serious for a second :D
I'm thinking: what the hell is wrong with this guy!

You can leave them out, although placing everything in the static bags would probably be the best approach. Do your best to keep your work area clean and organized. My area was a complete mess during my first build and it probably added a couple hours to the project.

i stick my unused components into their own little tupperware containers. that way they stay clean and dont get bumped around, leading to things getting broken off and a waste of a good whatever broke :P

Well, as it turns out, I got home a little too late to make it worth starting tonight. :( But tomorrow is the day! I might have a completely built computer by tomorrow night!

sereval days??
I get all components together in 2hrs...

Heh heh. Well, this is my first time so I plan to go slowly and make sure of everything I'm doing, but even still, I don't plan for this to take longer than a few hours.

The book I was reading always mentioned things like "plan to do this over a weekend" or something, but I guess that's if you don't sit down and dedicate yourself to it. (Ironically, the book would say how easy it is and that it only takes a few hours, but then they'd say things like that about days or weekends.)
