Can I keep my laptop "always on"?

I don't much like switching all my computers off.
And generally keep my laptop powered on 24/7.
Is this bad for the hardware??
Thanks :)

I can't imagine it being great for it, nothing lasts forever, everything is subject to wear and tear the more it is used, also depending where you leave it, could be quite dangerous, a couple of house fires have been on the news lately because a laptop was left on a bed restricting the airflow.

I tend to leave my laptop on as well, a bad habit. If you can, turn it off, it is better for the battery and the computer itself. If you need to keep it on for whatever reason (Downloading, uploading, rendering, hosting, etc.) then make sure you put it in a cool, vendelated area on a hard surface such as a desk, not a bed.

Thanks both of you for your replies :)

Good to know i'm not the only one :P
Keep it on cause i like being available to my buddies on FB and Gtalk and the Yahoo messenger all the time. Plus you're right, i generally "seed" even when i'm not downloading, just to return the favor (got an unlimited internet plan so not a big deal anyway)
Guilty of keeping it on the bed, but i keep it on a coffee tray, not directly on the sheet, it plays that "hard surface" role and lets the baby vent, but the thing still runs pretty hot. HWMonitor picks the following temps ATM
CPU = 59 degrees,
HDD = 42 degrees, and
Battery=35 degrees;
Too high isn't it?

Eh, you could leave it on all the time. I wouldn't though. Just put it to sleep when you're not using it.

I have been leaving my LG laptop (Almost 5.5 years old now) over-night, for 2 weeks straight and such... it still works just fine, but heats up SO FAST that I can boil eggs on it.

So in short, I do not recommend unless you're going to provide it with excellent cooling system.
