Can you put better hardware on an Xbox?

Hey guys/ gals,

I have a spare xbox 360, was wondering if it's possible to tear this thing apart and build with better parts? I have never torn apart an xbox before, and am curious before i attempt.

Things i am looking to change is the processor, ram, drive (switch to blue ray), LAN connection, maybe tune up other things. Following questions are what i have:

1) Is the xbox's hardware somehow tied to the software.

2) Can you just simply place the software somehow on a PC and play?

3) Can you replace any part of the xbox? If so, which ones?

If anyone knows how or has done this, let me know :)

Technically i am modding the box, but not to cheat or to run pirate games, just to improve performance.

Thanks,

Nope. Every Xbox is the same. It's not like a regular computer that you can just swap out hardware.

As far as I know it is not possible. The CPU/GPU are not removable like they are in a PC. The only think that is removable is the CD/DVD Drive but the Xbox will not work without the proper drive installed. I tried to fix a few 360s with other drives when they stopped spinning up and they would not boot unless it was the exact same firmware that it came with.

Well that just sucks. It would be nice to take the xbox 360 community (meaning all my friends play on that) and be able to have a powerful machine to play on.
