Cannot install "The sims"

Hey all,
I have a rather old version of the Sims and was intending to install it on my PC today. However, when I click on "Install:, there's this little WIndow that pops up, saying:
C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT
The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS or Microsoft Windows Applications. Choose 'close' to terminate this application.

Does anyone know what this means?

What operating system are you trying to install it on? I didn't know AUTOEXEC could have that file extension. Otherwise, you might have a corrupt disc. Does it work on another computer?
