ok so i got a few games i want to play with my brother but i cant install the games on his pc because the cdkey is alredy in use on mine.. can you buy the cd key without having to buy a second copy of the disk and stuff..i was thinking through steam but you would need to download off their.. i just want to buy the cd key.
thanks for any help

Well you could buy it off of steam and if you already have the game on steam you can make a backup of the game (through steam) and then put that on your bros computer and then steam will install it and you will be able to play (yay).

Sadly just buying keys is usually just as expensive as buying the game. Older games might be different but you run into possible scams. People selling banned keys online is pretty common. What game are you trying to get a key for?

my brother has his own steam account, and i brouhgt the game so i installed it. but we have a shelf full of games, we dont really wanna buy another version or download the game only got a 25 Gb download limmit

Twist is right. You will be hard pressed to find a site that isn't really sketchy that sells keys a lot cheaper than buying a version with the disk.

yea , can you buy off steam get the code without downloading it?

That's what I said before lol.
If you buy off of Steam you don't need to download it. If you already have the game on your steam account, just right click on it and go "Create Backup" and then put that on a disc and then you put that on your bros computer and it will unbackup and be on his computer, with his own key and such.

I think im getting confused but the steam install is going to be different from the disk. You can duplicate the steam install but you would still have to download the game once (thus taking up bandwidth which youre trying to avoid).

You said you have a bunch of disks on your shelf. I don't think you'll be able to buy the game on steam and then use these disks to install them (unless they are valve games).

However, if you already bought and downloaded the game through steam, you would be able to copy game to another computer without having to download it again (as long as the 2nd account has also purchased the game).

Even better than that - Get you or brother to create a shared network folder on your HDD, and then copy the entire "steamapps" folder from

C:\Program Files\Steam\

Onto said network folder. Then you install steam, and copy the entire steamapps folder into your own Steam folder.

Every game that your brother has will be there. If you don't own it yourself on your steam account it will say the game is preloaded.

It's a good way to save bandwidth, but me and my brother have 200GB a month so it's no issue :D
