Hi! Newbie to this forum. I am in search of some help.
I have an HP Notebook that up to a few days ago was just fine. It is a 5 year old HP zt1130 with a celeron 1.13 processor. It was serving me just fine. The cdrw-dvd-rom drive does not function.
It is equipped with a Toshiba CD-RW/DVD Rom drive, Model Number SD-r2102. It has stopped functioning. If I go to my computer, it isn't even listed there as installed.
If I place a cd in the drive, it spins for about 5 seconds, then stops.
If I go to the add hardware from contol panel, the drive has the yellow exclamation point. when i click "next" i get this message: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. the driver may be corrupted or missing" (code 39)
IF I GO TO THE DEVICE MANAGERAGAIN THE DRIVE HAS THE YELLOW EXCLAMATION POINT. if i click the "driver " tab" and click "update automatically" i'll get the same message saying" there was a problem installing this hardware". "windows cannot load the device......
or with other drivers, i'll get the message: the wizard could not find a better match for your hardware than the software you have currently installed"
My questions are:
1) could the drive the drive is shot?
2) should I try different drivers? if so, where would I get one?
3) if the drive is shot, is it easy enough for me to replace? The notebook has a slider switch on its bottom that allows me to slide the drive out of its bay. it simply slides in an out of the bay and connects to the computer when fully installed. are replacements (if avail;able...see question 4)simply plug and play??
4) will the architechture of the machine support a dvd-rw cd rw combo drive?
5) if the drive is shot, where would you purchase one? are drives that install this way still made?? if so which one might you recommend?
any advice you might offer would be appreciated,
STEVE
