Celeron 370 M 1.5 GHz Vs. Sempron M 2800+

Hi, new to the world of notebook computers and I saw what I feel is a great deal on a Acer notebook with a Celeron M 370 1.5 GHz processor also saw basically the same notebook but with a slightly smaller screen and hard drive and a AMD Sempron M 2800+ Wondering if someone could explain to this newbie the differences between these two processors. And isn’t it true that both of these budget processors have less L2 cache then the more expensive processors. And are there any heat problems associated with either one of these processors. Thanks :D

well since they are most mobile processors there shouldn't be much heat issues (please correct me if i'm wrong i dono that much about mobile processors). I think i read in another forum that the Celeron M is better but maybe you'll want someone else to confirm that.

well, the semprons are really nice processors, even though there not as good as the ahtlon 64, but it is much better then the celeron, at pretty much everything (especially gaming).

dont ever buy a celeron....
I own one and it works great.

Buy it if you don't plan on gaming at all (since it's the same price as the sempron I'm guessing but with the bigger screen and HDD). If you will be doing some gaming your best bet would be the Sempron (but a new Pm/D or A64 mobile chip would be best). As for heat problems, it's a laptop, so long as it has good cooling it should be ok (I don't know specifically if either of them do or don't have heat problems).

a celeron or sempron would be sufficient in performing most tasks besides gaming. however, i would suggest spending a little more for a pentium M or an amd turion.

i bought a celeron once and almost threw it out the window. are u sure that this is a good deal. you never know but u might be able to find a better deal. oh year i would upgrade to the pentium m they are much better than the celeron m

1. Celeron are the processor which are in some way defected during manufacturing, and intel had opened this secret after P4 luanch.

2. They are crap processor,u may just work with MS office applications.

3. Online experience will be horrible n dont think of gaming.

4.And those of u who own one, buy a new system n then tell me.

1. How can I put this........you're wrong
2. They are made for cost, not prefromance
3. I game with my 2.4Ghz celeron fine
4. I own a 3.2Ghz Northwood P4, 2.6Ghz Northwood P4 and am getting a 3200+ Venice, what do you want me to tell you? I love my celeron?

Hi thanks guys for all the help, Say Anthrax so you feel it would be find for just word processing web surfing ect? 1.5 GHz Cel M370. I know yours is a 2.4, And how much of a performance boost would I see if I moved up to a Pentium M 725, just might be able to squeak out a little more money. If so would I really notice a difference in word-processing web performance spreadsheets stuff like that I won’t be doing any gamming I have a desktop for that. Last thing what’s the actual difference between the Celeron and the Pentium M is it the L2 cache on the chip? Thanks again!!

My 2.4 is a desktop, the mobile makes no difference, it's a celeron. You'll be fine with a celeron for word processing and whatnot and yes, there would be a boost from the celeron to a Pm or a Turion (not for word processing and web stuf) the price will also be an increase depending on what company you buy from.

Celeron will be a mistake in anycase..:)

Yes but then again, that's why intel made Celeron D, better performance but still a budget processor. Mine Celeron D 2.66ghz worked wonderful, and it was really cheap.

Your Thoughts On Acer

Thanks Lord :> you've been a tremendious help! well plan on making the purchase next month I'll be checking my budget and I'll see. Say any thoughts on Acer that's the brand I'm currently considering. Thanks

AMD 2800+ vs Pentium M 725

Say last thing what's the difference between these two processors in terms of performance is the AMD in the same league with the Celeron or the Pentium M I know the Celeron has less L2 Cache on the chip, think I've narrowed it down to these two found a reasonable price on the AMD now I just have to sure it's the 15.4 wide screen model one part of the description seemed to indicate it was and another that it wasn’t. Boy this is going to be a little work but better safe then sorry best to do my homework before the purchase. Thanks!!

semprons are better at everything, i have a sempron 2800+ and a celeron D 2.6Ghz, and the sempron is MUCH better at gaming, and i think it is very good at every-day tasks, much better then the sempron. Plus its cooler.

I have a laptop with a Sempron 2800 and it's quite good IMO. I've used desktop celerons at 2.4GHz and my laptop absolutely kills them. I've used other celeron's and they tend to be extreamly slow...

So, I would stick with AMD unless you plan to get some higher end chip from intel. The only complaint I have about my Sempron is it's heat, but then Avertec didn't do a great job with the cooling system either.

How About The 3000+

Hi I was really pleased to hear about the Semprons running cooler thats what I read on the AMD sight just saw a 3000+ for just a few dollars more whould this be a better choice?? everything else is the same hard drive memory ect. Thanks!!

i would get the 3000+ for a few bucks more.

the celerons are ok, but i think the semprons are much better, and there usually cheaper.
