i dont know what the problem could be i run the game with the specs listed below get about 90 frames in mutliplayer lil less sometimes but it changes but periodically i freeze where the game locks up i have the 1.7 patch i updated it as best i can get it updated and noticed when i go to play mutliplayer sometimesit runs fine then eventually it locks up and freezes and i have to give my pc a hard reset by pressing the reset button anybody else having these problems and i have the lattest geforce 260GTX drivers

somebody mentioned i should defragment which i havent did in awhile cant remember when last time i did so let me know what the problem could be fi you have any ideas

On the assumption the freeze only occurs during games, it's worth reviewing whether your DirectX multimedia services are in order.

Click Start, then click Run.
In the Open box, type dxdiag, then click OK
This will run the DirectX diagnosis tool.
The next thing it could be is your psu (its cheap one using inferior capcitors) or heat issue within your build

Failing that check whether there may be a conflict with any of your devices by clicking on your control panel and checking for any exclamation marks against devices.

well im running windows 7 and i got directx11 it says was i supose to look for directx11 up here? and my power supply should be fine i havent had any major problems with it and the ampage is good for my video card.

is there anything i should update besides video card that i might not have though about or should be thinking of? so far my directx is fine

If you haven't got the latest drivers for the card, definitely do that. And also keep an eye on the temps for the video card and the computer in general, the freezing could be a result of the card overheating.

If your rig is what you have in your sig, no you don't have DX11, the GTX260 can only use DX10.

that won't be causeing the problem though, You can play DX any game so long as your video card supports it.

It used to do it to me too. When it does it, press ctrl+alt+delete and it should pick up again. Assuming you are on vista or 7, just click cancel then and you will be back in the game, if you are still running xp click the game window and it will come back.

I'm not sure what the problem was for me, but it was more of a minor inconvenience once I knew that.

If that doesn't wort it, unplug all peripherals apart from mouse and keyboard and try.

If still happening, close all background programs while running the game and see if it happens.

If it hasn't always been freezeing, what did you do between it last working properly, and not working now? Did you update anything or change anything?

As asked, what power supply are you using?

well

heres the powers supply im using http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817822004

and i noticed it just recent froze 2 times while playing guildwars today its hot where i am tho i have no ac upstairs in my room but my room gets very hot when its warm outside i have window open and a fan blowing air in from the window to try to keep cool plus i have lattest drivers for video card and motherboard running on windows 7 i got a program called everest ultimate addition check the cpu temp and today its higher then its ever been it was between 58 and 60 celcius for lil while so i think that played it role in guildwars freezing maybe even in cod4 freezing past few days in multiplayer but it wasnt really that hot some of the days not as hot as it is today outside i tried using alt delete ctrl and nothing happens when it freezes it completely locks up and wont do nothing not even the hard drive light blanks i noticed one time but not sure if thats the case i dont think its the hard drive yeah its everything in my signature i do know that my card runs directx10 but when i do dx thing it shows 11 which i know its not running 11 yet temp for cpu is lowering now that i got my window open again and have fan going a bit more but under load im sure it gets lil hotter im running stock cooling with no overclocking by the way 2.66ghz speed for all cores

90fps seems quite low considering your setup, which makes me think it might be issues with new NVIDIA drivers especially when other people are having the same problem. You could try an earlier driver that you know it worked with.

yeah im trying earlier driver oh i neglected to mention i was getting 90 frames in multiplayer mostly i had everything maxed out too im trying earlier driver to see if it helps

well im running cod4 in multiplayer at about 1680 x 1050 so that may play a role in how many frames im getting i dont have my card overclocked at all either

umm

in cod4 it still freezes on me and i got older drivers any idea what that could mean it locks up completely and i have to reboot system in order to get things running

i think i figured it out

i just used a program in single player its called evga precision so i used to monitor the temperature of my GPU ingame and it jumped from 57 or 58 C up to 85 C at different parts of singleplayer so that could be causing the freezing in multiplayer on those warm days

it freezes

my computer freezes in games only so so far its been freezing in more then one game it froze in guildwars periodically cod4 it froze first and nba2k10 it froze as well any idea what the problem could be and when it froze in nba2k10 it was at 83C the video card im saying its really annoying im not sure if its hardware related or software related

nothings working for me here still my pc periodically freezes while ingame i dont know what the problem could be but now i noticed for some reason i cant go where i left off in cod4 multiplayer reason why is i tried cuz i have my system booted for dual boot with xp and 7 so i went to xp and installed and now i dont have any of my cod4 data in 7 somehow i guess it over rided it or something i noticed that when i try to play it acts like i gotta learn weapons and stuff over again i never thought this could happen thought ifi installed it running xp to see if it freezes that it wouldnt forget my data i had on 7 but i guess i was wrong ;(

well heres the thing i installed cod4 on my d drive cuz i have it dual booted with xp then i already had it installed on c drive b4 i had it even dual booted with xp and next thing ya know when go to play it on windows 7 i noticed it treated me like i was a noob and my profile acted as tho i was level 1 again in multiplayer other then that thefreezing problem still happens periodically in games and i updated my drivers even further then i did have them a couple months ago
