computer not performing as it should?

Hi all. i have a new(ish) computer. it's a medion with a 256mb nvidia geforce card, 1gb ram and an AMD athlon 64 x2 dual core 3800+, 2.01 GHz.

when playing games, it doesn't look as 'pretty' as it should. Halo is the main game im talking about. i have to play it at 640*480, with everything low, vsync JUST to have a steady framerate. it looks worse than the xbox version!

is that normal!? shouldn't it run smoother with the effects turned up and at a better resolution? or can this hardware even handle those kind of games? i want to try half-life 2, but am afraid it won't even be worth it..

anybody know anything i can do to fix it? any help would be really appreciated. thank you..

Are you referring to an AGP model on a Socket 939 board or PCI-E model on a 939 or AM2 model? What drivers did you install or did you simply forget to install them?

i have installed the drivers for it. as for the agp model and other stuff, i have no idea what your talking about.

the video card is the nvidia geforce 6200 turbocache.

thank you..

The model number helps narrow that down to an older AGP model card. The information and updated drivers are found at http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce6200_pci

The main problem there would be the age of the card and it's specifications since newer games demand a little bit more out of cards plus you commonly see messages that a game needs a newer driver version in order to load. Your card could have also developed a fault if it isn't simply from the lower then required specifications.
