Cooler Master Extreme Power

Hey,

I just bought a Cooler Master Extreme Power 500W PSU to power up my 8600GT and hopefully in the near future, my 8800GT. I'm going to college this fall, so money is definitely a limitation, but is this a good power supply? I got it at Fry's Electronics for only $50. I've read reviews about the noise level, but what about the performance? Any opinions on this helps, thanks!

as far as i know cooler master psu's are pretty good.
and 500 watts is fine for the 8800gt.

so i see it as being perfectly fine for you :)

That powersupply is overrated. As for the price..it's so so. I got my RealPowerPro 650 watt PSU for $60 after MIR.

got mine for $5.99 after rebate. looked cheap. no sleeves. hard to connect to peripherals as some of the power connections was a bit off-centered. a bit loud. but no debilitating problems thus far.

Hm well mine came with sleeves. And I read reviews about the noise level on NewEgg. Apparently that heat sensor touches the . . . heat source, lol so it's constantly on 100%. They say you can open it up and move the sensor a bit, quieting it by quite a bit, but also voiding your warranty.

ya pretty good psu so far, ive got two, one is 3 years old on my x2 4800+ machine still runs perfect no sleeves on both but new build will have

i think i have a realpower 500W by coolermaster. It wasn't that loud for the first couple days. Then it got reallllllly loud. My computer would be whispering if it wasn't for that.

Well I also read that the fan could be hitting the grill. Haha I did my research. This is an easier fix though. Just take off the grill and put some washers between the PSU and the grill. Other than that it would just be the temp sensor overreacting again.
