Could Diablo 3's long wait be a problem for Blizzard?

I was a big fan of Diablo 1 & 2 as I played countless hours of both. When I heard about 3 I was really excited and couldnt wait to play like many people. However even though I still will most definately buy it and play alot of it when it comes in a few months, the anticipation just isnt there anymore. It just feels as though the wait took too long that I just lost that adrenaline rush. To me it seems like the very long wait will turn off alot of people that were on the fence about buying if in the first place. People that enjoyed the first 2 but didnt consider the games their favorites.

Has anyone else lost alot of the excitement for the game because of the extended wait for the release?

I lost excitement after hearing about it the first time then it just kept getting delayed and delayed. But i will still be purchasing it, i played a bit of the beta i thought it was pretty good.

It varies from person to person. I cant say im excited about the game because I never played it.

Lets take good ol' Duke for example. before the game was released they talked about it being released over and over again and when they set a release date, I was not excited about it because it took so long and so many release dates were announced and never delivered.

We'll see what happens when DIII comes out, alot of people are excited for it, alot others are waiting for the plop (ME3 type of Plop).

I liked Diablo II; still play it on occasion.

Frankly, I don't play games much, and I don't have 'this weeks' computer equipment, so I will not get Diablo III (if at all) until well after it's been played out by all the early-adopters.

If it comes out and gets a good reception, then it will have been worth the wait. If it is even slightly mediocre, then the delay will just feed the criticism.

It will make or break on it's gameplay. Some will buy it for just being diablo, but for it to be massively successful it will have to have something going for it.

I'm looking forward to it, but I'm suspicious of a few things. The stuff I've seen makes it look a little dated, but that wasn't the finished product. Diablo's gameplay has always been simple.

I just don't get why it's taken this long other than a lack of people working on it.

Maybe I'm just getting older I dunno. I feel its gonna end up the same way as the Battlefield series for me has. Battlefield 1942 was excellent played it a ton along with some of its mods. Then Battlefield 2 came along and I probably played it more then 1942, even some of its mods also. I got really excited about Battlefield 3 and bought it shortly after it came out. My pc is plenty fast enough to run it on high settings, but ever since buying it late last year, I've gotten probably about half way through the campaign and havent even touched the multiplayer. I know I'll probably love it and play it alot but for whatever reason the excitment just isnt there anymore like it was for BF 1942, BF2 and Diablo 1 & 2.
