CPU Fan runs faster now..

I made the switch from Vista Ultimate to Ubuntu 7.10 a few days back, and I'm noticing that my cpu fan has been going nuts!

It maxes itself out for a bit, then calms down.. then repeats itself.

I had Vista installed for 5 months and never heard the cpu fan, or any noise from my case.. now, it's all I can hear while on the computer.

I've got a 25cm fan on the side of my case that runs almost silent, but is keeping my case nice and icy.. if I stick my hand in the case, it's nice and cool in there..

Any ideas?

I know it sounds odd, but I feel like it might have to do with Ubuntu, since this just started when I switched over.

Didn't work :(

However, you led me to an article which mentioned how to get my side-buttons working on my mouse again.. unfortunately, that didn't work either.. because the guide is for Dapper, and I have Gutsy, but the guide for Gutsy got the buttons working great.. so thanks :D

Still stumped about the fans, though..
